Hey, I've been told by about 15 people now that there is a certain year for the Ram and the bottom ends are starting to go because of a lack of oil/ faulty oil pump? I was told It could be my truck ( 2005 ) or the 2nd gen. Any info on this or have you guys heard anything about it? I have the 3rd gen 5.7L, I thought it was one of the better Hemi engines made for the Ram?

Never heard of that.

How many of those 15 people had a ram that had oil pump issues? My guess is none and it's just people talking.

Well that's what I was thinking. But when a bunch of people tell you the same thing in a run of a couple of months it makes you start to wonder. I don't think I should worry too much on it. The bottom ends may be going due to lack of maintenance, and then the " Oh, this truck is junk". I know a lot of those people.

Lol don't worry about what people say. The bottom ends aren't going on anything. Just a bunch of people brand-bashing like everyone does. This goes along with the guy that was told that the hemi engine was "only engineered to go 100k miles"

Could be referring to the ecodiesel. The 2014 models had a lot of issues with the bottom ends (IIRC) and they were seizing up. There's another site dedicated to those, and there are tons of guys on there with the same issue.... just a possibility.

150,000+ miles on two 5.7's (03 Ram and 06 Charger), modified and beat on (but well maintained). You wouldn't know either vehicle has the amount of miles they have to ride in or drive them.

Never heard of this my 2nd gen has over 150k miles and no problems, my dads 06 Charger is pushing 190k miles no issues ever. Have not heard this from anyone I know with hemi motors or other 2nd gen truck owners

I'm waiting for chefred to see this thread an chime in with his 300k mile 05 lol

The only thing these engines(gen3 hemis) are known for is having a bad batch of valve springs in the 03/ early 04 models

I think Freddie made it to about 256K when he finally had a justifiable excuse to stroke it lol

Thanks for clearing this up for me guys! I appreciate it. On a side note, since I have posted this thread on bottom ends going... No word of a lie, my fathers 05' Chevy express 6.0L threw a rod, within that same week, my uncles GM 455 blew the crank and somehow the cam out of the back of the engine and a customers 09' Silverado with only 123,000Kms had a major bottom end knock. :shakehead: The Van was actually a great vehicle, but the other two, not so much... especially the 09' Silverado, they say its the worst vehicle they ever owned. Not trying to bash brands just thought that was a little weird.

I believe the issue you are hearing about is the 4.7L Magnum engine. ~145K the sludge gets bad in the sump an a fair number of low oil psi related failures result.

I haven't heard any rumors about Hemi engines with sludge.

Ditto on the 4.7l but it usually is the top end that suffers more than the bottom. Even though the 4.7 is not that bad of an engine if it is well taken care of, it has a very bad reputation.

However I have not heard anything of the sort on the HEMI.

Keep it well maintained and it should last a long time. Could be brand bashing as well from the bowtie loving community...

Haha, well I'll tell you something. They all act tough with their big 6.0L but when I half throttle that 5.7, they shut up real quick. I don't mind GM and I daily a Ford,:naughty: haha. But I think my next truck will be another Ram. And I've unintentionally converted 3 people so far just from seeing my truck. I just couldn't believe a 09' with only 120,000Kms, and it knocked like that!
