Smooth Tailgate

Hey lads anyone come up with a new way to get a smooth tailgate. That is to remove the Ram head logo and fill the depression left...or is there an outer skin for the tailgate that is totally smooth and reasonably priced.
I do not think normal body filling will last with the constant slamming closed that the tailgate takes.

If you have body shop equipment,
Buy a 6' X 3' sheet of sheet metal
rent a sheet metal brake
break out the hammers & dollies, etc.

otherwise, cut a section out of a damaged tailgate

Look around for a college/votech that has body shop. Usually you pay just for supplies and they supply the labor. Leave the fuel door for color matching and don't think that it would take more than a week . That's the down side, a bit longer

This...but they can color match off the gate before sanding for paint

Someone suggested to me to have some thing 3-D printed to put in the spot. Of course you would have an seam unless you put body filler around it and finished it. You would also have to have someone design the piece to be printed.

Just had mine done at a body shop. The tailgate was bad so I replaced it and had it filled in.

No..I wanted the exterior of the tailgate totally smooth like a quater panel so I could do a graphic...Anyways designed one that got around the issue of the RAM emblem where the "fill" was needed...thanks anyway guys.

I shaved my 05 grill which was plastic and attached to the hood. Several years later no issues even with the hood being slammed shut many times. I drilled several holes to help the filler bond to it better. Last weekend I filled in the tailgate on my 2014 Ram. Time will tell if it holds up. BTW, if that's your tailgate, nice graphics.
