So today my brothers dodge ram 2500 cummins wouldn't start. We are pretty sure that the starter isn't engaging the flywheel. We took the starter to autozone to get it tested, and everything passed (keep in mind that it is the original starter.) We noticed that there were some metal shavings, and after further look the starter and the flywheel had some chippings.
Once we got home we hooked it back up, and it startef right up. Next try it started making a grinding noise while the starter was spinning. For the most part it'll start up, but at times it won't. Anyone have any suggestions?

Put a starter on it before it destroys your flywheel.

Better check the flywheel also for excessive wear, check it all the way around. If your bad starter chewed up your flywheel too badly then the flywheel will wear the new starter out prematurely.
