I just got my 2024 Ram and had an issue when closing the tailgate from off center. The passenger side popped off and if it hadn't caught on the bumper I would have lost the tailgate or seriously messed it or the truck up.
The tailgates keep getting lighter. Even when closing it from center I noticed that it had a tendency to lift on that passenger side at about 45 degrees since it is removable.
For those who are having the same issue I fell back to something I did on my old 2004 to minimize theft. I put a hose clamp around that side which essentially keeps it from coming loose. Also it requires someone stealing it to at least have a screw driver or socket set handy.
Just a tip for someone else out there.
