I put a 8 inch lift and 37 in tires on my 2000 ram 1500 5.9 and about a month later my transmission went out. I had it replaced and it came with a 3 year warranty. About 2 weeks later my check engine light came on and it said it was the torque converter so I took it back to aamco and they put a new one in. Now 1 week later the light is on again and the torque converter is acting up. I had some engine shudder today on the highway I had to let off the gas and press it a few times to get it to go and then it was fine. Any ideas why the torque converter would keep going bad this fast?

that trans is notorious for being a big weak point. what gears do you have? I would guess the gears aren't low enough to bring torque back and the weight of the 37"s isn't letting the torque converter lock up. or just building too much heat and destroying it. if you can keep getting warranty work, do it. even if it's NOT your problem, consider 4.10s or 4.56s for your front and rear gearing to help take the stress off that trans. if they stop warranting it...get a built trans.

With 37s 4.56s minimum, better to go to d60s and 4.88s.

Trans wise, do you want built or stock rebuild? If you want a built don't worry about it again trans either swap an nv4500 5spd or get a PATC MegaViper.

You can beef up a stock rebuild to handle a lot of abuse though with a shift kit, check valve delete, bigger cooler, and non stock tq converter.

Do you know about how much it'd cost to get 4.56s installed?

2000-2500 is average. Better off swapping D60s under it and regearing though. Those little half ton axles will not like 37s if you like to wheel it.

For a regular daily driver you can get away with just regearing but don't expect hubs ball joints, tie rod ends etc to last very long

Your trans build is ****, and you need smaller tires or 4.88 gears.

if you have a Trans or converter failure, it is always advisable to thoroughly flush all the cooling lines, & cooler (s), otherwise you are destroying all the new parts
