Did the factory towing package on the 1999's (1500 & 2wd) come with a trans cooler?
I'm not sure but you could check by the radiator and see if there is one installed. That's the fastest way to determine if your specific truck has one. If this is just a general inquiry, I don't know which ones didn't or did come with one. I know my 1997 half ton I had in high school with the 5.9 and 4x4 had one.
Factory trailer tow group included the HD Service Group, which added an auxiliary transmission cooler.
Hi all. New here. Just got myself a deal on a 98 ram 1500 with the 5.9.
Wondering about the factory tow package?
It has a hitch reciever, (class 3 I think) rated for 600 tongue and 6000 max trailer. I see no 7 pin connector but I do have a large tranny cooler ahead of the rad.
My question are these;
Is that trailer hitch receiver after market since the truck is rated to drag 7400 ish and the receiver on it is only rated for 6000?
How do I know what tow package my truck came with from the factory?
I know there is a trailer brake controller plug harness under the dash and curt makes a plug and play adapter and trailer brake controller. Does this mean there would be a plug harness in the rear for a 7 pintrailer plug reciever to be connected?
I have ore questions but am just bagged today. If anyone can shoot me straight bout the couple I've asked id appreciate it.

The towing packages for 1998 - 1999 Dodge Rams were recalled in April of 2009 as the hitch assembly may fatigue and break. The dealer will add brackets to support the assembly. We have a 1999 4WD and it came with a trans cooler. Recall number is 872 if the vehicle came with the tow package. If the hitch was an added option, the recall number is NHTSA00V107000.
