That's why I bought a 2500 CTD. My fifth wheel is 12,000 pounds empty, so I figure closer to 15,000. I went over the scales at a weigh station when they were closed to check axle weights.

I have a 2019 1500crew 4x4 5.7 HEMI with 3:21 rear gear and my GVWR is 6900 LBSIt was the only time the gauge did that. I’d have to double check but I believe tow capacity is 10k lbs.
As stated earlier in this thread, that depends on configuration of the individual truck. They aren't ALL rated for 10k towing - there's a specific setup (maybe a few) that is rated for 10k. For instance, a V6 4x4 truck likely won't be rated for 10k towing. And I wouldn't pull 10k with a Hemi if it was coupled with 3.21 gears either.THe dodge ram 1500 4x4 is rated for 10000 lbs towing and i have been towing my trailer for over a year rated at 6300 lbs dry and 7500 lbs loaded with no problems at all . the fuel gauge fluctuation is a separate issue, either a shorted ground ( ia have had that issue before) or the sending unit sweeper arm is failing , which means a new sending unit
I had to rebuild 4R100 transmissions put into Ford F-series 250- up many times because someone would tow beyond rated max. On one occasion, a customer came into the dealer with his F-250 4WD extended cab with a bar-b-qued 4R100 just after towing a 30,000 pound loaded gooseneck trailer. The Factory rep told the man right in the service aisle adjacent to me that he should trade up to an F-550 or above to tow that much weight. The man flew into a rage and said he was going to buy a Chevy and bloviated how that would, somehow change towing capacity in a 3/4 ton PU. Said Rep said he'd likely have the same issue because he (the truck's owner) was using the truck beyond it's design limits. My 16 big horn 4x4 is rated for towing 10000 pounds, on paper anyway. In my opine, a 1500 is too light to tow that load safely. That’s HD truck territory.

The only way to find your exact ratings is to look up your VIN.
