What years of the ZF8HP70 are all compatible for a direct swap with a 2014 4x4 3.92 GR? I am thinking about getting a low miles used one to drop in in the next year or two. I think my TQ converter is starting to go and an OEM one is almost as much as what I can find for a used transmission with the tq converter included.

Not hardly anything under 80k near me.

Look for a 2014 8 speed,as there was a TCM change in 2015. You can put your existing TCM into a later 8 speed if it comes down to it,there's video's on YT showing how to swap the 8 speeds TCM,if you end up having to swap it

It definitely has to come from a 4X4,but gear ratio shouldn't matter. The 2X4 and 4X4 8 speeds use a differant output shaft,and the only way to change it,is to totally tear down the transmission and swap output shafts

Does the transmission need to come from a 4x4 or same rear diff?

The 1500 has a 23 spline output and the HD trucks have a 29 spline output
The transfer case adapter is also different between the 2
