Wanting to level with Bilsteins

Hi all,

I'm in BC, Canada. Every time I call any shop and ask about a level - whether spacer level, or the 5100's, they all tell me that when you level, the upper control arms need replacing as the balljoints pop out on all rams from 2012 and up. They want to charge me 1800 Canadian (1300 USD) to install the Bilsteins with the upper control arm replacement.

Is this true? I have a 2014 Sport.

Is not a bad insurance to replace them but with bilsteins there is drastically less chance of popping the ballpoints

1300 is insane for that install to me. I dunno maybe it's because I do all my own maintenance but I'm sure others will agree the UCAs are easy as heck to replace. 20 minutes each tops, esp if you are already replacing the shocks.

That is alot of money, unless they are using top of the line UCA .

i got my fronts done in edmonton for a lot cheaper. without UCA's though. maybe 600 in labour. and mine were done by the dealer

You can buy 5100s at many places on the 'net. Search around. I got mine at Amazon (fronts) and Summit Racing (rears).

what year is your truck? No spacers - bilsten 5100 adjustable shocks do the leveling. With 5100's there is a lot less chance of popping the ball joints, but replacing the stock ones with aftermarket is an added insurance.

My truck is much older than yours, it's a 2010. But I leveled mine with Rancho QuickLift Struts. That was 3 years and 45,000 miles ago and I haven't had any UCA/ball joint issues. I love the Rancho, they ride great and are adjustable for ride stiffness. It was really easy to install them in my driveway as well

Okay. Lots of guys on here over the past few years haven't replaced the UCA's and they've been fine.

With spacers you will want them though. Price wise that shop is out to lunch. Look up Mevotech UCAs. Much more durable than stock, and priced well.
