What is this under my power side mirror arm?

Does anyone know what this is under the arm of my driver side mirror?
It is not under the passenger side and they are heated power mirrors.
Just wondering what it is or does?

I park my truck so that the morning sun doesn't hit the driver's side outside mirror in the colder times of the year so heated seats and steering wheel turn on with remote start. In the summer, I park so the mirror housing gets the sun and the auto-vented seats turn on with a remote start.

Not the best place to put an outside temperature sensor. I had a 2003 Tahoe, I don't know where GM placed the sensor but it had the right reading except when parking on black asphalt in the heat of the summer. I can only guess the sensor was placed in the front grill area.

Thanks guys, that makes sense.
I know on earlier Ram trucks I had, it was in the front grille.
And as stated, often times was just a good guess of true air temp.

They moved it to the mirror because of the active grille shutters. I think 2013 was the first year in the mirrors
