So i am goinf from a 20in wheel with 275/60/20 (33in tall) tires to a 17in wheel with 285/75/17(33.9in tall) tires. the tire will be just under an inch taller but should i expect much of a MPG decrease, if at all? i would do a 285/70/17(32.7in tall) but i want to fill the wheel well more to make it look better.

The MPG's are already bad so im not to worried about it but dont want it to go down to much. i just wish i could see the 285/70/17 mounted because if the looked good i might just do those and it would probably net me some MPG's.

anyways, i appreciate any input. thanks

I would say you aren't going to see anything significant. Come on now. You aren't driving a V8 truck for gas mileage.

smaller rims generally see beter gas mileage since larger rims tend to be really heavy. at least those strong enough to take hits from the roads and what not. the ighter you go the better it will be.

i am running 20x10 inch solid aluminum wheels and 33x12.5 in tires... i get 11.1 mpg with my lift and i am getting 35x12.5 soon so that'll probably only go down. since you are running skinnier tires you should be fine and you should see if anything a small increase from switching from the 20s to 17s

wow, thanks for the responses already!

very true! unfortunately i didnt get the liberty to drive this truck with the stock set up (i think it came with 265/70/17) which i am sure got way better MPG's than i do now. between highway and around town average 10.5 ouch, haha. so i just dont want it to go down much more if possible haha.

i have some Boss aluminum wheel on there now which i would guess weight quite a bit. i am getting some method wheels and am hoping they weigh less but the tires i want are about 13-15 pounds heavier per tire than i have now so not sure if it will make a difference.

another question i guess i should find out first is any rubbing issues. a 285/75/17 tire with method wheels 0 offset and 4.75 backspacing.

what do ya think, any rubbing issues?
