With winter fast approaching, I searched for a bit and found a couple mentions of rust on 4th gens but nothing major. I know the 3rd gens have a bunch of rust issues and I see rotted 3rd gens in my area all the time but no 4th gens yet. I'm curious if anyone out there has any real rust starting on the older 4th gens. The only thread I saw was this thread http://www.ramforum.com/f41/cab_corners_rusting_away-72429/ awhile back but thats the only serious rust I've seen anyone talk about on a 4th gen.

I live in Massachussetts and we see a good amount of salt on the roads in the winter. Anyone have any appreciable rust that lives in the rust belt?

Mine has front and rear fenders rusting but that's from where the previous owner installed mudflaps.

All I can say is I am furiously "knocking on wood" right now.

If you are in MA look up Rust Stop. They have franchises around CT, MA, And NH. I have been getting my truck treated with their formula since new. Once every year! Stuff works and truck looks better than new underneath! What's nice it's a food grade environmentally friendly Oil that never drys or hardens, they spray everything without drilling and protects and lubricates. I go up to NH to get mine done, he only charges $159

Thanks I'll definitely look into that! Sounds like its like Fluid Film type of treatment?

Found a thread on the Z forum about the fender rusting through right above the Hemi badge. Theres s patch of sound deadening material on the back side of the fender that catches and holds moisture/salt.

Heres a pic of a 2009 with a hole:

Yes like fluid film but that has lanolin base. Corrosion 3000 and rust stop both petroleum base much better. Also rust stop specializes in rust prevention. Honest guy and best pricing. I have gone to them since my truck was new. Month after I got my ram the drive shaft and counter weights were rusted, I sanded down painted with black rustoleam, and then Treated with rust stop, not a spec of rust over past 2 years. They spray everywhere even battery terminals, rocker panels, fuel and brake lines, door jams and locks, etc well worth it and truck will last you forever if treated every year, I am in CT as well lots of treated salt on roads. Eats up metal.

Wonder how you prevent that.

Without taking the fender off it would be pretty tough. Might be able to get access to it by taking the wheel liner out...

How you prevent that is by getting the truck sprayed. Preventive maintence! They have long extensions that reach everywhere in the truck! Also the 3rd gens did t have the plastic wheel liners. Now if you want fixed you'll need Bondo and paint.

Was going to start a new thread but figured since we're talking about rust, is anyone elses rotors rusting as bad as mine? They were just installed 2 months ago and already look 2 years old!! No rust anywhere else for me but there. And it looks like crap. Hate getting those rims nice and shiny and tires wet looking and all you can see are the rusty rotors. Anyone every try and painting them? Obviously not where the pads touch but the drum portion?

Yeah mine are actually starting to pulsate because of the rust that's formed on them. Mine are the stock factory ones that have already been machined once over a year ago because they were rusty. I'm going to wait until after winter to deal with them since they're just going to get worse with road salt...

Call him up in Concord and he'll give you the names and numbers of the franchise dealers in CT, MA, VT, he hasn't updated his dealer website. I just had my truck up in Concord 3 weeks ago! He has become a distributor now and is licensing and training garages who are interested in providing this service and supplying them with the product and guns to spray. Really nice guy, been dealing with him for 3 years when I first bought my truck and was looking for rust prevention. Canada has the best systems and that is were he imports from. I drive to him because. Went there first and he is the cheapest by far at $159! Also nice ride in the truck enjoying the foliage. Just get it sprayed before first snow and salt gets put down. You have to have undercarriage washed bl and clean before. You'll be happy you did it!

I hear you on this, living in MA they salt the crap out of these roads. I sprayed the entire underbody with the under coating spray. It actually formed a nice hard service. I sprayed multiple layers and am pretty confident this will last.
It did take a lot of time but I know I did it and what I did. In other words, nobody to blame but me.

Corrosion Free is another option for rust protection. Environmentally friendly and used by both the US and Canadian military on their vehicles. Only needs to be re-applied every 18 months. $145.00 including tax CD.

A lot of people paint both the rotor hub (in your picture) & the caliper. Just going visit Canadian Tire...they sell high heat caliper paint.

I'd suggest black, dark grey or silver if you want it all to blend in.
