I don't want to get into HiD's, LED's etc because to be honest I simply can't be bothered. What I am interested in are headlight bulbs that are better than the **** ones that come stock on the 2012's but also last a few years. So my neighbour who's a retired mechanic who does all my work for me (you should see this guy, he built a pro garage onto his house bigger than my last mechanic's entire shop!!) told me to just put sylvania xtravision bulbs in. He said they're twice as good as the stock bulbs and he always gets about 3 years out of them. Which is basically exactly what I want. Any of you tried them?

If yours are the h11, try the h9 halogen modified to fit h11. Really simple to do and close to twice the output of h11. https://youtu.be/_mrbdQmck7E

Have you thought about the Sylvania Ultrastar ZXE headlight bulbs.. I had them in my last truck and I really liked them. I am really thinking about putting them in my 2015 Ram Laramie, but I'm not sure if I will lose light output due to putting in a 9006 bulb vs. the 9012 bulb that is required!

The silverstar is the same wattage. Its not brighter, but it's a slightly cooler temperature which makes it seem brighter or throw light farther.

Like old get said, if you have h11, the h9 mod is your best bang for your buck.

Just about any halogen thrown in our lights will suck.

Sylvania Silver Star Ultra in my high beams. I've used them in every vehicle I have ever owned. Reguardless if the wattage is the same as stock, they out perform the stock bulbs. Period.

Here's a pic of my old F-150 showing a Silverstar bulb vs and OEM Ford bulb.

I ran a google search yesterday because this has sparked some interest for me. The conclusion I came up with is that the xtravision is brighter than stock. But the silverstars are brighter than xtravision.

Yep I remember that from a conversation about bulbs here last year here. People were saying the silverstars aren't as long lasting though

I've had the ZXE's for almost two years now and they're awesome. Much brighter than stock and brighter than the Silverstar Ultras which I have also tried.

It's a color temperature difference and a whiter light has a bigger contrast which makes it appear brighter. They have many different specifications they have to stand behind to sell them legally. I'm not saying that they don't appear brighter, they are a slight improvement over stock, but it's not going to be the night and day difference that you're seeing with HIDs which are actually putting out a massive lumen difference.

Will the wattage difference going feom 55 to 65 not cause overheating of wiring or harnesses?

Yep. I have The SS Ultra's in my Charger and I refuse to drive it at night if I can avoid it. Sure, the light is nice and white, but I lost SIGNIFICANT distance of visibility (almost 1/3 of the distance) that the light output originally was. Hell, they are nearly 7 years old only because I hate driving it in the dark so they don't get much use, which I guess is a good way to make them last longer than the stock bulbs did...

Gotta go with the modified H9 lamps. When I need new lights on my Ram, that's the route I'm going.
