They already do that, the trucks gps records every movement. I really don’t know that but I just realized that my phone has been recording my every movement for over a year without me even knowing, wtf! Apparently in google maps there’s a feature that does that. I turned that **** off quickly, can they do that without permission or maybe I hit ok on a pop up and didn’t know it, idk!

Only if your vehicle has navigation. ;) But the satellite receiver can probably be tracked also.

Id cut the fu&ker out even if im still in warranty. Buncha EPA ********

Kinda like having MDS on my 3500 6.4 hemi that is not “rated” for gas milage by the EPA.

Why the FU$k is it there if this truck has NO GAS MILAGE RATINGS. Take that blul**** off.

Those air inlet plugs are there for EPA reasons? I figgered they plugged the holes just for looks, and for a little better fuel economy since they’d technically be useless unless there was the ducting there under the hood to channel the air to the Mopar CAI. I don’t have one of them sport hoods, nor have I looked at one up close but from what I’ve heard/read, unless you have the ram-air kit- which, Chrysler’s not gonna add that **** for free, you’d just have unsightly empty holes in your hood. That’ll look real nice...lol.

I agree, that not everybody buys a truck for gas mileage per-say but some us wanna at least feel a little bit like we’re not having to spend a small fortune at the gas pump...lol.

So no real answer on what it is/purpose? Just curious, as my 17 doesn't have it.

Well, it may be because it’s so freakin’ new, that no one knows, except Chrysler. And since it says “DO NOT REMOVE, NOT SERVICEABLE”, it’ll probly be a long time before anyone even finds anything about it. 9069467cab8155cb3f1956fba90ec41a.jpg

I pulled mine outta the box that my new MOPAR CAI came in and the Mopar part number for this “mystery” filter is 68333090AA. The part number for the Air Cleaner Cover that has this extra filter in it is 68333088AB, 5.7L HCA & PORT.

It also appears that there is an area where the 'added filter ' doesn't cover? Correct?
Yeah, it’s the port for the tube that goes from the breather to the intake- or wherever the hell it goes on these, but on the 3rd gen Hemis, it was the engine oil filler port.

Almost looks like a carbon filter from the closer pic. Is it just an “empty” mesh, with fibers kinda just stretched out?

Sounds like its just a 2018 thing. Or 2019 thing, I have no idea about those.

It's a carbon filter and it is restrictive. Like mentioned above, it's for when you shut your motor off- the intake venting fumes will be captured. It pops out real easy. I don't think removing it would add HP but it would help throttle response because with it in you are flowing though a small "bypass" hole on the filter. Most Toyotas have these

Thanks for posting this because I would have never known it was there!

As said, it's a "charcoal" filter to hold onto any fuel vapors that might back flow out of the engine after the engine is shut off, then draw them back into the engine on restart.

Subaru has been doing this for years. You can easily yank it out and trim off the rivet tabs with a utility knife if you want to. I know for Subarus, adding this is part of their "Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle" certification for some States.

What’s the purpose of trapping those vapors or whatever it is that it traps? Is this just to keep fuel smells out of the cab, or are them hippie Californian’s worried about pollution from that venting to the atmosphere?

That's exactly it. It's to help prevent raw fuel vapors from escaping to atmosphere.

Just looked and I do have it. Doesn’t seem like much. I’ll probably wait til the warranty is up to remote it
