Ford and GM are overheating, would the 2019+ Ram?

So TFL truck has run an 3.5 ecoboost up a hill this summer and it cut power due to overheating. They then ran a chevy 6.2 with the 10 speed up a hill and transmission temps got to almost 300 and truck told them to idle engine due to overheating.

I'm wondering how you all think the 2019+ Ram would do? Do they still have transmission coolers? Does the hemi get that hot?

I'm not sure what the Ram would do, but I believe most - or many - of them come equipped with heavy duty engine coolers.

I love Ford's response "it's impressive that the 3.5 was only 20 seconds slower than the big diesel". No Ford, it's not impressive. The HD diesel did it effortlessly, and will do it all day every day for years. Your crappy little EB almost needed to be towed home after one trip.

I cannot stand Ford for reasons like this; they push and care about only thing, how fast does that sh|tty little box go.

That's kind of what I want to know, do all 5.7's come with a transmission cooler or just the ones with the tow package etc?

After a quick view of a few 2021 Rams, I noticed they had tow packages without the heavy duty engine coolers so it must be in an upgraded package with the Hemi VVT e-Torque. That's the only trucks I see it on.

Found this on another forum:

Today's Ram 1500 employs a production-first thermal management system that taps into heated engine coolant to speed up the warmup of automatic transmission fluid and engine oil to maximize the fuel saving benefits of those fluids.

The 2019 Ram 1500 continues to use the thermal management system to bring the transmission fluid and engine oil to operating temperature quickly. The system also serves a cooling function under high load/high ambient temperature conditions to ensure the transmission fluid temperature is controlled.

I checked my vin specific build sheet and it lists "Heavy Duty Engine Cooling". Hopefully I'm good to go. I just have the normal 5.7, no etorque.

TFL already tested a Ram 1500 with the 5.7 etorque motor up that hill against the Ford F150 Powerboost. Both were towing i believe 10k lbs the Ram did fine and also got better gas mileage than the f150

As I seem to recall that was one of the tests where the Powerboost 3.5 overheated and the 5.7 Hemi did not………..

I only saw one video where the Ford overheated on TFL? That was the one I linked to above, they compared it to a GM 2500 diesel.

I tend to avoid TFL truck these days with Roman and Andre being pretty serious Ford fans, may as well call the channel "The Ford lane truck". But if you can find the video back with 3.5 vs hemi I'd love to watch it.

The 8 speed has an awesome trans cooler no matter what. Now if they have an upgraded one I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure wether it’s got the tow package or not it’s the same cooler since it’s part of the ac condenser as I’ve yet to see one with a secondary cooler. My old 97 1500 with the 45rfe had a second trans cooler in front with the heavy duty package.
Edit: my 2017 express has the “heavy duty transmission cooler package” on the build sheet. Guessing it’s a standard package that doesn’t actually mean anything anymore if all the trucks with the Hemi come with them since my truck does not have the added tow package.

I did watch that one, but didn't see anything about the EB overheating, just that the EB got bad MPG compared to the hemi, while both towed up the hill at similar speed/time. Still, a good win for the hemi.

That was the only one I could find.

I just watched the video I was referring to its was a towing comparison up and down the Ike gauntlet towing 7800lbs. The F-150 did not over heat in this video but got worse MPGs compared to the Ram.

In another video, the guy from TFL used his Personal EcoBoast 150 and it overheated and/or derated while operating.

ADDED: When I get hay, I tow 6600-7500 lbs with MY 19, no issues. I am only towing local but the temps be 95-105F. Just no issues, works as advertised, but it is a local tow, so no WDH. If I was towing a lot farther, I would have to invest in a WDH. My trailer is 2150 lbs and with hay, I usually am in the 7000 lb range. My biggest issue is the 19's AC is lousy, but better since I had AC TSB just done. I be out in a field loading, then towing to house and I be a happy Turkey.

Yes that was the one where Romans F150 went in to reduced power mode.
YUP, it got a lil warm, LOL. But U know, any truck could do that. They also had the Chevy with the 6.2L in that video and the trans went to 300 degrees, yup, cook eggs on that tranny, LOL... Around here, a lot of PPL are buying Silverado's with the new 3.0 Duramax, and they R imploding at 5,000 miles, hmmmmmmmm, wonder wat is the issue? Or were they just 2 truck unicorns in TX? Hmmmmmm.....all IMHO...

Look into adding water heater tube insulation to your ac line. Helped my 2017 out quite a bit. Has to be closed cell insulation. https://www.ramforum.com/threads/my-ram-ongoing-project.97961/post-2349150
