I added five led lights to my lower air dam. Connection was made on drivers side parking light without a relay installed. This was done over a year ago and I have had no issues.
Your on the right track, just keep adjusting the tire size until your speedometer matches the speed on a gps device. I dialed mine in at 60mph for speedometer and gps.
Mine was off by 10% 50 = 55, 60 = 66. I was not so much concerned about the odometer as I was the shift points as I tow a toy hauler. I purchased the Hypertech speedometer calibrator a few weeks ago to correct it.
Here is another style. This is very easy to install. two wires to the lights and 1 to a ground and one to positive.

I added 5 amber led lights to my air dam, lights were about $10 total on ebay. I connected the lights into the wiring behind the drivers headlight. A year and a half with no issues. I can add a night shot if you want to see how they look.
Mine is a 2015 2500 but may be the same so try this. Remove the drivers side dash panel. The one next to the door not the one under the dash. There will be a green connector. The wire for the courtesy/dome light should be yellow w/violet stripe.
