I really like them actually! They flex a little when you step on them but that's to be expected as they are only attached with 3 bolts per side.
When I first put them on I was annoyed with how noisy they where. Every time my tires through a rock at it they reverberate the sound pretty bad...
The defrost button just below your stereo on the right. It looks like rear window defrost, it'll turn on the heated side mirrors and rear if you have that option.
Alternatively you can also go to the climate control settings if you have the 8.4in touch screen and hit the digital button there...

To answer your question the D2 driving lights would be way brighter than your stocks, however if you going to drop the money I'd recommend either going
LED (Way brighter than stock)
or
HID (noticeably brighter then LED and extremely brighter then stock)
before getting any aftermarket...

Yes to the zip ties, no to the bolt holes having to go to metal. Nothing in that picture should get that hot. You'd only have to worry if you had the resistors which clearly state not to mount to plastic.

Neither of the two I've owned have done that. Both push button start with all the bells and whistles.
