Purchased the package for one of my 2017 Rams, opened the instructions, gawked at them for an hour, crawled under the truck to gawk at the routing, promptly listed it on eBay and sold the kit. I ended up trading for a 2018 and made sure it had the lights already installed.

And if I was ever going to tackle that job at my age, I'd do it in the winter in Texas...20 steps are bearable in the heat but 60 is winter work!

If you go OEM, wouldn't you need to get the option activate by dealer or similar?

If I go bed lights I'm going to try and wire to the cargo lamp as well as a method to turn on from the bed. This would be useful when I go camping. I sleep in the camper shell

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. I live in East Texas so I know what you're talking about. I'm almost 65 so I may just see what the dealer would charge me to install the lights. I have read that the dealer has to "flash" after install anyway.

Those light kits are plug and play. The instructions are for trucks that aren't pre wired. Any of the new trucks should be.i just had to drop the pigtails connected to the lights down the hole, and they plugged right in to existing wires that were capped. The dealer will have to flash your computer to make them work. My dealer charged me almost as much as I paid for the lights to flash the computer.

Thank you very much. This is certainly how it should work. Did you get the Mopar light kit I mentioned on the 1st post of this thread? If not, which ones did you get?

I bought the factory light kit and according to the install instructions, wires had to be run and many other steps completed so no, not just plug and play. I sent the lights back for a refund. will buy after market and tap into a hot wire at trailer wiring...too much trouble on the factory kit and dont want to have to make appointment at the dealer. my mistake...seems every gm truck I have had had bed lights included so I assumed for the 56K msrp stuff like that would just be there.

Someone mentioned before is this thread... The instructions are written for a complete install to a truck that was not prewired for them. Most of the newer trucks have at least most of the wiring already in place, just have to find it (tucked somewhere under the back of the truck)

The hardest part would be the wires from the bcm to the cargo bed....I don't know the colors offhand but you could find out and then look underneath the rear of the truck for the correct ones.
