Catback with headers will flow better than muffler swap with headers. I have the borla s type with arh 1-3/4 headers and high flow cats. It’s definitely louder. I can hear it start from in my house but it’s not so loud that my wife complains. My neighbors have never complained. I would do the touring if I bought again though just to keep it a bit quieter at full throttle and first start. Cruising is decent. And no drone that I notice. It’s easy to find it in a parking lot. Lol. It’s barely noticeable at idle when warm. And best part was with my headers it really didn’t get much louder but the tone was noticeably deeper and more aggressive. If you aren’t planning on doing headers I would do just the muffler swap and look into either replacing the factory 2-1 after the cats or replacing the whole y pipe with a new high flow. I have a magnaflow 2-1 y in my garage that I was going to use but bought headers instead

That's what I'm looking into. The long tubes. Does anything else have to be replaced or upgraded to host the long tube headers do you know? Stock cat is still in. Will only be doing a muffler swap for now. But headers within a year. It's tough here in Canada with options. Looking like I could get kooks pretty easy. I like the gibson ones though but finding a place to order them right now is hard
I was told you still may throw a code unless you address the 02 sensors adding an extra expense to LT, there can be fitment issues to on some older Rams I hear?
But, the LT is the best way to go also.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked into the borla systems. My brother's got the touring on his Silverado and that's what I'll probably do. But maybe I'll wait for the headers until the cat backs in

I'm doing the muffler swap for now to just get a better sound cuz my big bucks are going into some new shocks. I plan on doing headers. I do like the borla touring catback as well. What are these high flow cats you speak of? So do headers , a good catback. And high flow cats. Then sell the magnaflow muffler haha

Oh I see the setup you're running. Decent. The high flow cats came with your headers?

Yea. They are part of the y pipe.
Oh man. That's definitely on my wish list. Haha. Maybe next year. Once my shocks are all upgraded will be going with the long system , 2800$ for me. That's without shipping too. "It's not exactly street legal" *will Farrell in old school.

The magnaflow muffler has been installed. Wow did it ever change the sound of the truck. Not super loud but enough to make it known. Will definitely keep me happy until I figure out if I want to do a borla touring cat back system

give it a few months and the sound will deepen out a bit and maybe a touch louder at idle. you will like it!

I have a Totalflow muffler, part #415633 sounds awesome and is exactly what I wanted. Conversation can be had at highway speeds.
How long have you had this set up? How is it holding up?

I’d share my two cents but my setup will make your neighbor or wife hate it. If I had a 5th gen I’d simply spend the coin on a Corsa cat back. Yes very expensive. We’ve had a sport system on an 07 mustang gt and an extreme system on a 10 mustang gt. I just installed a full Corsa cat back on my wife’s 20 Rubicon and it does sound quite good for a Pentastar. We are very pleased with their products. The Sport system for 5G Rams leaves the resonator under the driver in place, the Extreme simply removes the resonator.

My Ram setup is a single FM Super 10, no resonators and 5” carven tips. Had the muffler on about a year and it’s definitely gotten a bit louder.

My opinion is as others have stated. A full catback exhaust system isn't worth it financially. A muffler swap would provide the same performance. Sure, you can get 304 stainless steel in a Corsa or Borla build, that which would survive many northern salt roads in the winter months, but what if you live in the South? Cheaper materials survive down here. This is why I chose not to install a full catback built in 304SS.

I installed the Flowmaster American Thunder direct replacement muffler. It gave the truck that muscle car tone without all the rasp, drone, or ear deafening, obnoxious exhaust many truck owners have. When MDS is off, you have zero drone in the cabin at any rpm or speed. When MDS is enabled, very slight drone in the cabin, only at specific speed/gear/throttle positions, but the stereo masks it easily. The exhaust is clean, deep, and soothing. This muffler is cheaper 409 stainless with paint protection. It will survive in Florida just fine. The best part, it's bolt on, and I installed it myself in an hour. If I want to return to stock it's a simple bolt in, reverse install. The Flowmaster also is not a fiber packed muffler. There is nothing to wear out or break in to "get louder".
