I have a similar problem with my 2007 Ram 1500 4.7. It is using a couple of quarts a week and a bottle of antifreeze. My mechanic buddy says it could be the intake manifold gasket or the manifold itself. Now I have a tapping noise coming from the engine.
Whaddayathink?
A couple quarts and a gallon of antifreeze…a week!?!? Unless its all over the ground you have a big issue.

When the engine is cold and has sat for a day or so, crack the oil drain plug loose, but do not remove it.

Loosen it just enough that it starts to slowly drip.

Watch the drip.

You will see pretty quick if you have coolant in your oil.

Best of luck on getting it sorted out.

I've been running Mobil super synthetic 5w30 in it the whole time. How much thicker should I go? I'll have to research the noack as even after all the oil stuff I've read on here in the past I don't think I've ever seen that word. Will do the redline and seafoam stuff for sure.

Try using Regular oil vs. synthetic.

My 08' Powerwagon with 40K on it would use oil if I used Mobil one, I went back to Regular Castrol and it didn't use a drop.

Worth a try!

Exactly! . My wifes 300c with a 5.7 hemi even manual says NO synthetic and 5w30 0r 5w20 and it has 94,000, Never uses oil and has no valve train noise what so ever. Even says 87 octane only. Car never misses a beat and runs awesome. Now my 2500 6.4 gets 89 octane, PPP 0w40 every 5k and it has way more valve train noise. Still dont understand this big synthetic push. Cast cylinders are porous and synthetic does not hold in the pores like mineral oil.

My self I have never seen a modern owners manual state not to use Synthetic oil, to the best of my knowledge FCA recommends synthetic oil be used in Hemi engines... Your post is the first ever I have read that states they get more valve train noise using synthetic oil...

I've had my 2014 Hemi Ram for just over a year now. I've consistently had to put a quart of oil in every two weeks since I've had it. The pan gasket leaked when I first got it but the dealer fixed that and there are no more oil spots on the drive way. I can't tell that it leaks at all. It very seldomly, very lightly smokes at startup for a minute or two, but never when it's warmed up. It runs fantastic. Where the hell is my oil going?

The weather is cooling off so in a couple weeks I'm going change on the trans fluid and pan, and at that time I'll pull a spark plug or two to see how they look. I put new ones in when I first got it. So if they aren't covered in oil then I will be at a loss as to where it's all going. I'm at about 4500 miles since the last oil change, and I don't even want to bother changing it at 5k since I've basically already changed it completely since then. What do?
It's probably the valve seals. When the engine is off, oil from the head passes through the seals and accumulates in the intake manifold, then burns in the first couple of minutes giving that smoke. And then, when engine runs, it still leaks through the seals, but doesn't have time to accumulate, so it burns unnoticed.
Still, my diagnosis is not 100% true, but it's one of the possible things to look at.

I seen a post on the Jeep boards a bit ago, where the new Jeep manuals supposedly are saying not to use synthetic oil. But i didn't really follow it up,and personally haven't looked at either a new owners manual for a Jeep or 300C.

Our high mileage diesel engines can sometimes start burning coolant, like a gallon every several days. Doesnt show up in the oil, that can be seen, just gets past the headgaskets somehow and burns off. Nothing 16k couldnt fix last time.
We joke about the way you make 100 million in trucking is that you start with 200 million. My personal vehicles, when a coolant loss occurred, it showed up very visibly in the oil...with blown head gaskets.

I've had had gaskets blow on cars with it all going out the tailpipe and none in the oil. My ram head gasket blew and leaked externally. No coolant in oil.

Yes, sometimes they blow and not bad enough for noticeable coolant in oil. Othertimes, a gasket can blow so bad that compression gets into the cooling system and causes the radiator to go bad and leak.
