Update on this. Ended up getting the AB version of the HCU and installed it last month. The code has now returned . Could the module itself possibly be the problem? I can not find the AB version of the module anywhere

I cant imagine this hcu motor is bad as well. This is turning out to be the most problematic truck I’ve ever owned.

The HCU comes with a new motor, pump, valves etc. It's under the little black dome on the back side.

What faults do you currently have?

I replaced the HCU with a new HCU I purchased online from a dealer. It’s the new AB version. The module is the old one I put back on the front.

The lights recently came back and it’s the same code as before saying it’s the pump. I tried doing an ABS bleed through Alfaobd and don’t even hear the pump running but it gets extremely hot to the touch.

I saw this after I had already purchased the new “improved” HCU.

At some point in time (i.e. several ABS pumps ago) you need to realize there is something else going on here. I'm not trying to be an A-hole here or anything so don't take this wrong. But obviously there is something else wrong and you need to go further with diagnosis. I question if the part you keep replacing is even truly bad but rather is not getting the proper control signals, intermittent power feeds or grounds (bare wiring, bad connector). For example, if a wiring connector is corroded the simple act of unplugging and plugging it back in will temporarily restore the connection. But give it a few weeks or months and you lose the connection again because the corrosion comes back. If it is truly going bad something else is causing it to fail, and not that is just a bad part.

Not taking anything personal here. Reason I’m frustrated is my truck has 25k miles, almost zero rust(live in Florida), and everything looks almost new. I have pulled apart the connector and everything looks good too. I’m wondering if a bad module would have any effect on the pump? I haven’t changed that part yet since I’m unable to find one. I also just attempted the ABS bleed again and it blew the 40 amp fuse. Maybe there’s a short in the motor somewhere ?

I’d suggest sending a DM to RamCares, they may be able to expedite a solution for you. I had the HCU replaced on my 2018 2500 back in the spring. It was replaced with the newer part number ending in AB, they have been out there for a while now. I had contacted RamCares and they opened a case and had a new HCU at my dealer in a week- the dealer was shocked because they had trucks lined up for this part for months.

The current UAW strike will not help since it’s affecting the parts distribution centers, but you can get the ball rolling at least. RamCares may also be able to get you some goodwill in regards to cost as well, given you have replaced this multiple times already.
Yea I just calle ran care they opened a case for me . Dealers Ben waiting 4 mo for the parts to fix mine.they have 10 other trucks that need the same parts.

I believe the TSB for this calls out replacing the HCU and then test driving. If the fault returns they recommend replacing the control module (the computer on the HCU). You might look it up yourself to make sure.

It also specifies specific fault codes for that troubleshooting tree.

Looked up the TSB. Looks like they say to replace the HCU. If problem still persists, replace the ECU module. That might be the fix. Problem is they are impossible to locate.

I've have the same issue since October the dealer did order the pump control, but the module is not available anywhere. Earliest may be June.

RamCares may be able to expedite one for you. You should reach out to them and see. A bunch of months with malfunctioning ABS is a serious safety concern.

So I spoke to a service guy at a dealer about it and he said I should probably wait till they figure everything out. He said even the ones that have been replaced with the updated part # have been going bad.

Mine went out in September and I was told March for a part. I searched online for new parts at least once a week and they were back in stock in late November. Only part was AA, new part is AB. So far I have not had any issues, but I have not driven it that much either.

I took apart the old motor and the springs were no longer working on one side, so in my case it was definitely the motor.

You can also try sending the motor to xemodex.com for refurbishment. Frankly, I would also recommend buying more then one part the next time they become available.
