    66RFE TROUBLE

My comment was in response as to why they didn't put the 8 speed in HD trucks sooner. Yes, I did then elaborate on why I think the 8HP trans are a much better choice regardless of maintenance.

    66RFE TROUBLE

My understanding is the wait had more to do with the prawl/parking system changes necessary for HD truck applications. Regardless, the 8HP70/75 is worlds above the 66RFE in terms of actual feel and drivability. One of the nicest automatics I've driven. The 66RFE by comparison feels...

    66RFE TROUBLE

Best way I can describe it is to say with the stock converter it always felt like some sort of torque management was active. The truck just wouldn't launch hard when you punched the gas. With the new converter it just GOES. There is no delay at all in comparision. Really makes the truck more...

    66RFE TROUBLE

Having just gone through a trans rebuild I think there are reasonably priced upgrades which address most of the common issues. I see a lot of big dollar 68RFE trans builds available but seems like the diesel guys blow those up just as easily. In my case I wore out the overdrive cluches and...

Mopars new turbo 6 cylinder Hurricane's appear to be very impressive

I was just referring to direct injection only long term issues as opposed to a dual direct/port injection setup in my comments. So not sure where you are coming from here.

Mopars new turbo 6 cylinder Hurricane's appear to be very impressive

My friends father had a wagon with the 455 and for it's time that thing hauled ass. One of my favorite old-school motors.

Mopars new turbo 6 cylinder Hurricane's appear to be very impressive

Yes/no. The extra displacement and long stroke very likely would have helped the low end considerably. The Gen 2 426 Hemi had a large bore and short stroke by comparison. How much this would have helped, who really knows. But if you compare a Gen3 426 to the Ford 7.3 Godzilla motor they both...

Mopars new turbo 6 cylinder Hurricane's appear to be very impressive

That fact that Ford still doesn't use the EcoBoost in their HD trucks even after 7 years of development speaks volumes. However after owning both 5.7 and 6.4 trucks since 2003 I have never been overly impressed with the low end torque these engines make. Usually when I'm towing heavy (or even...

    The 6.4 HD Hemi Thread

I'm no trans expert but was told the stock converter is garbage by more than one reliable source. Could this contribute to your issues, that I have no idea. But I replaced mine with an Edge 2600 stall converter, along with a high capacity pan, and so far the original trans has held with 90k+...

    6.4 Hemi - 8 Year Report

Don't know how much it's helped but I put a Mag-Hytec pan (2 more quarts) on along with a better torque converter. Also change the fluid out every 25k or so. So mar the trans is holding. Other then the lifter issue I l have no complaints about the motor. Considering the crappy trans gearing...

2020 RAM 2500 6.4L - Loud tick even after lifter replacement at 19K miles

I had fully expected to find lifter/cam damage during the teardown based upon the noise it was making. But to my surprise everything looked good. I always maintain 5-7k oil change intervals with a good quality full-synthetic. Also always give the truck a chance to warm up a bit before...

2020 RAM 2500 6.4L - Loud tick even after lifter replacement at 19K miles

Well the truck has ARH headers but the answer to your question is yes. I've replaced the gaskets, both with OEM and aftermarket just in case.

2020 RAM 2500 6.4L - Loud tick even after lifter replacement at 19K miles

I replaced my cam, installed non-MDS lifters and the Hellcat pump. My truck still ticks when it's cold out. Heads were also checked and new springs and valves installed at the same time. I've also run various oils from the stock Penzoil, AMSOIL and Redline. Made little difference. Something...

    18 2500 auto, 6th gear at 60mph stutter

Just an FYI. I had the same type of shutter for years. Tried custom (HF and JG) tuning, new aftermarket torque converter, swapped fluids, even new shocks. Nothing eliminated it. Would have to get off the gas and back on to stop it. Then during my cam swap the EGR accidentally disconnected...

Edge Racing 11" Converter, 2600 Stall

I would not go under 2600. If anything, might have tried 2800 if I was doing it all over again. According to Matt (Moe's) 2600-2800 is the sweet spot for a truck when you're frequently towing. Night and day compared to stock. With the factory converter it always felt like some sort of torque...

Edge Racing 11" Converter, 2600 Stall

Still one of my favorite mods. No issues towing and I've pulled some heavy loads over the years. I really can't think of any downside/quirks at all.

Yes, but you have to ditch the 6.4 factory EGR setup.
