What did you do with your 4th Gen this week?

I picked up some paint overspay recently so I had a service come over today to clay bar and wax. It cleaned up nicely and the paint is gone, but it’s now giving me the stink eye! Going to the hunting lease tomorrow to dirty her up some.

2017 Longhorn 4x4 5.7 HEMI MPG and cost

The owners manual for my truck recommends 89 octane or mid grade. I’m guessing the hemi has more compression than non-hemi engines and that is probably the reason. We will see if using 87 for a month keeps that trend line moving up. I kind of doubt it.

2017 Longhorn 4x4 5.7 HEMI MPG and cost

I’ll try getting some empirical data by running 87 only in September and see if the numbers generally increase. The 87 above was pure gas without ethanol, so I expect that to be the reason for better mileage. The gauge in the truck read about 20.5 on that run by the way.

2017 Longhorn 4x4 5.7 HEMI MPG and cost

I may update this monthly if people are interested. Planning to track every dollar for a year. The expenses listed are things like bakflip cover and weather techs. Note that the higher mileage regular gas in this first post was non methanol 87 which is hard to come by here, but I was on a trip...

Stay with 1500 or go with 2500?? Need some imput

That’s my plan this weekend. I’ll pull onto a scale and check just because I’m kinda ocd that way. I have twin beds over the axles, so I can put stuff on those.

Stay with 1500 or go with 2500?? Need some imput

Consider this. My 1500 has a GVWR of 6900. A couple of weeks back after camping, I drove on a cat scale with the trailer and found out I was about 160 lbs over weight. Yesterday I decided to weigh my truck with a full tank of gas, me, and maybe 80 lbs of stuff in the bed. I do have a...

    Weight Distribution whoops...

Spare tire for the camper, luggage, a few tools, ice chest... didn’t seem like much. I think the WDH was putting the weight on the truck and yeah, going back to the way it was rigged before would probably work fine. I’ll weigh again in a few weeks. It pulled fine with no issue. It was only...

    Weight Distribution whoops...

Hooking up after a camping trip, my front raised a little over 1/4” and the back drooped dropped just over an inch so I decided to shorten the weight distribution chains by one link. This fixed the front to the same height as unhooked, so I figured I was good to go. Driving home I pulled...

    Trailer brake software

Was it the factory brake controller? I just had a dealer install one and it works just as crash68 states.

It’s just a scratch, what would you do?

What about those scratch repair kits. I think the kit fills it with a polymer. At least it wouldn’t rust later if you did that. I can’t see it in the pics.

2017 Longhorn 5.7 and 3.92 rear end towing.

Got the brakes rebuilt. On the first drum to come off, parts just fell off into the drum. Brakes were not functional at all. One was even missing the magnet. So new brakes and a TBC now, all is tested and working fine. Thanks for the suggestions, one side had dried out grease so I’m really...

    Trailer break question.

Finally have this sorted out. One of the brakes was missing the magnet. Replaced the brakes and all is working. Thanks for the help.
