Utilizing the factory fog light button with aftermarket lights

Fog Lights
Want to add fog lights to my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd 5.2 lt. Have been told would need to install a decoder and or have flashed since were not original equipment. Can go with halogen or LED. Is the flashed and/or decoder necessary to add fog lights.
