12.5 wide 35s in snow...?

Hey everybody. Snow is approaching, and quickly.

I have 4 brand new General Grabber AT2s on my truck, which have kickass reviews in snow. However, mine are 12.5 wide 35s. This is on my 8800 LBS GVW Ram 2500. Real heavy.

What can i expect from these tires in snow? Crap traction or what? So far it seems the consensus is fine going slow but ass going fast. Floaty. Anyone know?

I don't foresee you having any issues with those tires, the old lady is on her second set on her trailblazer and they go great even when her 4x4 wasn't working, obviously they are allot smaller but the same tire, I have 315/70/17 (basically the same size as yours)Hankook mud tires and being wide and a mud tire the did real well even in the ton of snow we got up here last year, so even though they are bigger and wider I think with your heavier truck you'll be just fine and will be very pleased with them, they wear well too if you keep them rotated and nothing is worn out on your vehicle.

Well ya, they really are a great tire, basically the same tread pattern as a bfg but for a lot less money, you got the 10 ply i assume? They should wear really well, I'd get them for my truck except I want the aggressive mud tire look and they've come a long way as well to being a good all around tire.

Yeah, 10 ply, Load range E. Ive heard nothing but great things. They're very similar to BFG ATs for about 1/2 the price with extremely similar reviews.

The problem with wide tires is in a lot of snow. Skinny tires are much better at digging through powder. But yours will be better on packed snow and ice

I ran 12" wide BFG ATKOs in a 33" on my first Ram (2001 Sport) and it actually did better in the snow than the factory tire size did with GoodYear snow tires on it.

First winter with this setup, I never put it into 4wd...

Yes, actually. I've had the tires on 20" XDs since about mid December now. First off they balanced out very well, they only took but 9 oz weight per tire. I used hammer ons on the inside lip of the wheel and stickys in the actual dish part. I inflated them to 55 PSI each and they haven't lost a single pound since, but i also cleaned the rims and used bead sealer on one or two as well as 4 new valve stems.

Initially i drove them home from mounting them in the rain and i was amazed at the traction. They performed excellently and I was very confident around every corner i took. On dry pavement they also do very well.

In snow in 4wd they work pretty well, they do float a little bit but in heavy snow on the roads i maintain around 40-45 MPH and they do just fine. Around sharp corners (90 degree ones) I go into them around 10 MPH and give it a lot of throttle halfway through and they just rip me forward in 4WD. They do very well in the snow, even in 12.5 wide.

In mud and dirt they do fantastic as well. I entered about a foot and a half of mud in 4HI at 8 MPH and made it 100 feet to the end of the hole without ever being worried that i would get stuck. All at 8MPH, all in 4HI. Did great.

Overall 10/10 tires, would and will buy again.

I have 33x12.5x15 Bf goodrich alterrains and they cut through the snow just fine. and some weight in the back with the 2x4 will get you almost anywhere.

Obviously a snow tire is going to do better but he was asking specifically about these and the size. I would give up some snow performance to run an all terrain or mud tire all year long any day.

Narrower tires for ice and snow, wider tires for mud.

Wider tires float, good for mud but bad for snow.

Narrower tires for ice and snow, wider tires for mud.

Wider tires float, good for mud but bad for snow.

They float a liiitle bit but really the weight of the 3/4 ton helps out a lot.
