Would like to add a freezer to the bed of the truck. My 2021 Sport has a 4000 watt plug inside the cab but nothing in the bed. I could run an extension throught the two sllider window but think something more permanent would look and function bettter. How can I get power to the bed from the inverter and where is the inverter?

I'd run a dedicated invertor mounted under the hood or in the box of the truck, and then run the cables under the cab and up through one of the drain holes in the box. Are you sure about that 4,000 watt number,i thought the invertors were closer to 400 watts, but then again i haven't kept up on what the 5th Gens have for an invertor

There's lots of video's on how to add a seperate stand alone invertor either under the hood,or in the box of the truck, here's a couple i found by just punching in "how to add an invertor "

Yeah. 4,000 watts is about 33 amps, that is more than a house circuit for most everything, the OP could run and electric clothes dryer with that much amperage. I also think they meant 400 watts.

Running a freezer off a vehicle battery is going to be tricky, not sure how they intend to use it. I would certainly consider beefing up the alternator and installing a dedicated second battery to prevent vehicle battery from draining.

So a mini freezer 3.5 - 5 cubic feet has relatively low power needs at 100 to 150 watts on startup. Is it really necessary to run a whole new inverter?

Depends on whether the fridge will run for a week-end when you're camping.A dual battery set-up which Tron mentioned is probably a wise way to do it,as it'll also let you run a few other 120 volt accessories.
This guy uses a continous duty solenoid as his isolater, which is basically all a battery isolater is.
But there's lots of video's using an off the shelf isolater

My RV, had an residential style fridge in it and used a 1000w inverter to power it, when not plugged into shore power. The camper had dual series 75 AGM deep cycle batteries. It would only run that fridge maybe 4-6 hours before the batteries went flat. So on your mini fridge set up, be aware that inverters are not very efficient and will drain your battery faster than you would think.

Before i bought a small generator ,i used a H8 battery and a 1,000 watt invertor to run (4) 100 watt halagon lights for swapping tires after dark at the track. It gave me about 2.5 to 3 hours of run time, before it would start to fall off and the lights would start to go dim.

Great information, thanks to all!
I looked closer at the freezer today and it draws 14 amps at start up so my 400 watt inverter is way too small. My use for this freezer is to get us from A to B so the truck will be running most of the time, if we stop for the night I would need to shut down the inverter until the truck is started up again the next day. With that information could I get away with a single battery and say a 2000 watt inverter? Once at our destination we would unload and shut the freezer off for the rest of our stay.
