Looking at affordable options to get better MPG in my 2007 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi, it's the 2WD Lone Star edition, which is essentially the same as the Big Horn, but only came in red and was only sold in Texas (if that even matters). The truck says I get 11.9 MPG, and I would like to increase that as much as possible, as cheaply as possible, as I want to do some road trips. I don't care if I lose power, as long as it helps with MPG. I was thinking a Cold Air Intake would be a good option, but I was told not to get anything where the filter has oil on it. I'm not sure about that, though. Any tips would be appreciated! Also has 196k miles but runs perfectly fine.

Don't think you will see a big difference with any of the options listed, other then your wife's 2010 Focus. My 2012 gets 12.5 to 13, and has since the day I bought it.

What you can do is change your spark plugs if they have alot of mileage on them also the mileage calculated is never right do it manually 13mpg is about normal

There really isn't much you can do outside of general maintenance. Start by sealing up those exhaust leaks at the heads and manifolds, they mess with your fuel trims. Service your truck with the factory-recommended plugs, engine oil & filter, transmission oil & filters, differential service, stock tires, etc, basically make everything stock. You can try a F5 tuner from Superchips, super basic and it has an economy tune.

Nothing is really going to make any noticeable difference in fuel economy. A tune/programmer woke mine up a little bit, but nothing drastic. The ambient air intakes are more for looks than anything. I found I get better mileage by just driving the speed limit or a couple under and keeping my foot out of the throttle. Plus, I’ll draft a couple car lengths off 18 wheelers when I can and let them block most of the wind.

My 5.7 actually gets 16-17 on the interstate. Its traffic and back roads that drag it down.
