Hey everyone I have a 2013 Ram Express and I think I have a transmission or torque converter issue.

When i'm cruising around any where from 25 mph to 45 mph when the truck goes into ECO mode, I get a crazy sound and a vibration I can feel in the whole truck. It kinda reminds of how a drive shaft feels when its out of balance, then in order to get the truck to shift out of ECO mode I have to give it considerable amount of pedal or put it in tow mode, or manually shift it to 5 or so. The dodge dealer seems to think its normal, but no other Ram I have rode or drove has the same issue..any thoughts guys...its sooo annoying I'm about ready to sell the damn thing.

That's the MDS. Truck is shutting down 4cyl to save fuel.

I have never felt that in my truck. Did a tech take a ride with you so he could experience it first hand? If not they are just blowing you off! Take it to another dealer and have their rep ride with you.

Mine didn't do that when it would go into or out of MDS. It did bog down, and feel and sound ******, though. IIRC, maybe mine did vibrate a just a little too.
Maybe you have an MDS with a very strong will to stay active?

Did you search back a bit deeper in the forum? I seem to recall this problem coming up a couple years ago, a bit before your guys time.

I will have to look and see if I can find it.

I was actually browsing through this section for the exact same thing. I have a 2013 Express RC and when you are cruising about 25-40ish and you give slight throttle say 10% it has a vibration and a sputtering type feeling ... anyone else have experience or found a solution?

sounds like MDS but mine isn't like that at all. i don't usually even notice when it comes on/off except the the lack of power. it also disengages pretty quick and easily when i hit the gas

Mine does that when the MDS engages.

Try driving the truck in tow/haul mod and see if it still does that.
I was in tow haul a few times this weekend with over 1300lb in the bed and mds still came on

Digging up an old thread. I have a 2014 RC black express w/ 5.7. About 1100mi on odo and have been noticing this vibration since day three of ownership. It's definitely not MDS. To iterate the problem, the vibration is similar to driving a manual, ******* the motor in 3rd from a stop, as if the gear is too high for motor. This only occurs when coasting with no accelerator input, then applying light input(as previously noted): no problem under heavy accel. Happens on highway or in town. My guess is the transmission is in too high of a gear? Anyone find resolution on this? Pretty annoying.

Put the transmission in manual mode "6" and the MDS won't engage. If the problem goes away, it is the MDS you are feeling.

Note: Nothing wrong with driving around in "6" if you don't want the MDS to activate. Also, tow/haul mode will deactivate it too, but it will change your shift points also. Manual mode won't change your shift points.

Tried tow/haul previously and still experienced the drone/vibration. Will attempt manual mode tomorrow. If it's the MDS, is there a fix? Read a tsb is available for 2010-2013. Thanks.

just fyi, atleast for the 2014, the tow haul mode does not turn of MDS. Only the "manual" shifting mode does.
