View media item 29349Hello,

Newly joined member but I have certainly used the forum over the years to find good information, so thanks!

I did a few searches on the forums before posting this specific question.

I have a 2005 3500 4x4 SRW, with stock rims no tire size (17x8 chrome 5 spoke, 265/70-17) and no suspension mods. I am interested in new tires and came across a set of lightly used tires on 2016 18" stock wheels. The size is stilghtly bigger (275/70-18), which would seem to be fine, but I'm have trouble figuring out if the wheels will fit alright. Lots of mixed information on the wheel offset specs out there. Looks like the bolt pattern is the same but the numbers for the center bore and offset vary from near equal to pretty big difference, depending on the site I go to.

Here is the rim I have a chance to get (pic). model #5XV56TRMAA(?)

Any help figuring out if these would fit my 2005 and what any difference in fit might be is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The stock 2016 18" 2500 & 3500 wheel measures 8 x 18 with an offset of +43 mm. Centerbore is 121.3 mm. Lug & thread is M14 x 1.5 (lug diameter x thread pitch).

The stock 2005 18" 3500 wheel measures 8 x 18 with an offset of +45 mm. Centerbore is 121.3 mm,
Lug & thread is 9/16" x 18 UNF (Unitifed National Fine Thread).

So use your old lugnuts with the newer wheels to avoid galling the threads. Check to make sure the lug nut shoulder mates up to the wheel face. If not, get some new lug nuts with the same diameter and thread pitch that match up with the wheel face properly.

As you stated the bolt pattern is the same. The differenct in offset is only 2 mm which equates to 0.0787 inches. You won't even notice the difference.

Thanks Michael,

I had found a description that had equal offset as well. I also found a site that said the 18" had +45 and another that said +57!

As you can imagine I don't want to give several hundred bucks out for something that won't work.

I knew about the lug nuts but thanks for the reminder!

I've used the site linked below for years when I needed some wheel specifications. I've found it to be very accurate.

Don't forget to post up some pics of that truck before and after the wheels are on!

Thanks for the link. That’s the site that showed them to be equal, so good to know it’s accurate.

I’ll post pics.

thanks

IMG_0973.JPG IMG_0969.JPG Well, I picked the 2016 18" wheels and 275/70 tires up last weekend and finally got time to see how the fit today. I test fit them to the front end. They bolted up fine and seated well on the hubs. They look good and fill the wells up a bit more.

However, there is definitely a difference in offset from the stock 2005 wheels. It's additional positive offset. I measured from the top part of the shock to the outside wall of the tire. The 265s measured at 18.5" and the 275s measured at only 17.5ish". Not a big difference but the new tires are about a half inch wider. The tires are visibly sucked into the truck more.

I haven't driven it yet but I don't think there will be any rubbing or clearance issues.

So, not sure if the one site I found that said the offset was +57, compared to the +43 stock was correct after all?

Wondering if anyone here is/has run wheel spacers behind their wheels? Looks like they make them at various sizes of thickness.

Might be an option to bring these out at least to where the stock tires are, an inch or so spacer.

Thoughts?

I did confirm that the offset is 57.15, based on the "ET + 57.15" mark of the inside of the rim. So, if the factory rims are a +43, that's 14.15mm difference or 0.56 inches. Ran the comparison on wheelsize.com:
