2018 1500 Sport -- enabling DRLs. Dealer couldn't do it, what can I do?

Hi all

First post here as a new owner of a Ram 1500. One thing I was *really* excited for with the 4th gen sport was the orange/amber DRLs that I *thought* were enabled from factory. Shame on my for not testing this while test driving the truck.

Regardless, the truck is mine now and I cannot seem to paint a clear picture on how I can get these DRLs enabled to automatically turn on during the day (while using auto mode).

I was told the dealer could flash the truck to a Canadian setting and it would ultimately enable this. The dealer flashed to Canada but it did not work. They simply said "Chrysler must've removed this option for us" and sent me on my way.

I am also reading there is a way to do this myself using AlphaODB. Looking at the main AlphaODB thread, I am even more confused now. If I am not mistaking, I need the ODBLink MX adapter and an android device with AlphaODB to enable the feature. But I am also now seeing a bypass harness might be needed for the 2018 specifically.

Can anyone shine some light on this for me? The truck is now flashed as Canadian and I still have no DRLs haha.

What is the shortest path for me to get these things enabled?

This is what you'll need

Alfaobd $50 Google play store or download through alphaobd.com for windows

If you plan on only doing is enabling basic features (90% of what people do) then any elm327 based obd2 bluetooth reader will work

Since you have a 2018 you'll need the security bypass cable that https://www.kaodtech.com/products sells

The other folks on here have covered it, but I was in a similar predicament as you last summer, dealer was giving me trouble about activating DRLs. Getting AlfaOBD was honestly a blessing, gave me so many more options for less than the dealer would've charged me to just to SEE if they can activate the DRLs.

Update!

Using the guide above, I was able to get the DRLs working. HOWEVER -- I have no option to enable or disable them in the menu/ui of UConnect. Any way to troubleshoot this specific issue without ruining my progress?

Did you choose optional?

Also it can take up to 24 hour's for the option to show up in the radio

Couldn't be easier actually. On the AlfaOBD thread in DIY section there's a document that explains it. Took me 10 minutes including time for the change to take affect.
