2018 Failed ABS HCU Teardown

Also wonder if it can be reported to the nhtsa.gov to be addressed as a recall. Its amazing how many trucks has this motor failing and they havent done anything about it. Like the cam/lifter problem. There is a reason of why insurance give a discount when your vehicle is equiped with ABS system.

I saw a video of somebody saying earlier models has a different motor manufacturer and they fit on 2017 and 2018 Rams. The guy replaced it with a 2007 model motor. Just like to confirm if it is true.

I did my 2018 2500 this weekend and used a motor from a 2011. 100 miles so far with no codes, lights, dinging or issues.

Mine started doing it again last week. I'm going to tear down my original HCU and try to repair it then swap them.

Failed at tearing the old one down. Probably could have got it eventually but broke the one tab and had trouble reattaching the 'runner' so gave up and bought a used HCU off eBay from a 2011 1500. Swapped the motors today and no lights yet.

Sorry if I missed this, but did you have a specific fault code that was triggered with the motor failure?

You could potentially pull the motor off without removing the HCU. It's held on with only two bolts but i dont remeber if there are brake lines in the way or not. If yours has the same problem you could likely have it fixed at a starter/alternator shop.

I'd love for somebody to try it. I might bring mine by to see if it's repairable just for my own knowledge for when my next one craps out.

The rotor contacts where the brushes ride look mighty scurvy.
