I have a quick question. On the 2021 with those equipped there is a wireless charger in the cell phone holder, correct? If so, is CarPlay wireless now? Or does it still require a plug in connection?

Thanks.

My 2021 1500 Limited has a wireless charger in the cell phone holder, but I can't use it with the OtterBox protector I have on my iPhone. I've read where dealerships will provide you a protector that will work with the wireless charger.

CarPlay is wireless in this model, and works flawlessly.

Carplay is wireless? Not on my 21 Limited. Are you sure about that?

So it has a wireless charger but you cannot use CarPlay wirelessly? That sucks.

I read a technical article and the limitation is the large volume of data that CarPlay transmits. Receivers that do support CarPlay wirelessly have a more powerful version of an in-car/truck wireless network capability than our Ram's have...

Kind of but he usb port is literally right there, and if you do not have 3 seconds to hook it up, you might want to loosen up your schedule a bit. - Brian Regan :)

Not a deal breaker but then why have wireless charging? BMW offered it wirelessly and a few others. Just don’t know what it is about most that have wired only. My wife’s 2021 QX80 has wired too. Just seems odd to me.

My understanding is it is not Bluetooth, it is WiFi now so that might be the hold up. GM has wireless and they have also had 4G in their vehicles for a while, so maybe they are just ahead of the game.

But who knows with MFGs, they do weird crap all the time.

My '16 GMC Denali had wireless charging, my '20 Ram doesn't have it but i have seen it on these trucks. But I bought the Laramie, might have been an option on the Limited. I plug my phone in for Android Auto anyways so its not a big deal for me.

I’m still waiting for the flip phone wireless charger to become a thing.

I listen to AM radio most of the time so the new tech is meh to me.

I don't know. my last BMW had it and it was great... jump in the car with phone in pocket, and it hooks right up. I miss it... not the BMW - the wireless CarPlay.

Exactly. It just makes sense. Obviously, there is a reason most require a wired connection but it can work or some wouldn’t offer it. I just wonder what it is that makes it not worth offering for so many manufacturers. Having the wireless charging pad just scream wireless CarPlay to me. Would be great.

Wireless charging of any device has nothing to do with wifi. That’s why the Ram can have one feature and not the other.

I too wish Ram allowed wifi connection on CarPlay.

I tried the CPLAY2AIR Dongle in my 2021. I use the left USB port under the screen and keep the unit in the little cubby to the left. I just leave it there and my iPhone XR connects in about 15 seconds. I wait till it connects before putting it in the Qi charger.

To use the wireless charger the phone must have Qi. Our iphone 6s do not have it but for 19 dollars you can get a Qi case that will allow the phone to be charged. It is a nice sturdy case as well. Carplay works when the second phone is plugged into the usb port.

CarPlay is wireless in my 19 lone Star w/8.4 screen. I use it every time I drive.
