2026 Hemi engine option question

The main negative I see about the etorque system is parts availability if something fails. People are seeing long wait times for replacement parts. I've owned two 5th gens with the etorque system and neither one gave me any problems. But I only had either of them for about two years. It's just something that makes the engine more complex than it needs to be, so long term reliability would be another concern for me, as I've read about bearing failures in the starter/generator.

Is there any real data on the e-torque as far as reliability or is it just a bunch of traditionalist poo-pooing it just because (I include myself by the way). Maybe it's okay and we just some real data and not just opinions (again, I include myself on the negative view of it).

I see no problem with the MDS and VVT. I've had many hemi engines (chargers) with both and with proper maintenance I believe both are reliable and as mentioned above, you got some good things from both.

My data is old and incomplete, but I don't have access to fleet metrics any longer.

With that caveat, low failure rate but higher repair costs. Warranty kept TCO the same, but out of warranty it *may* be marginally higher.

With parts availability and costs these days, that gap may very well be wider. Covid changed a lot of cost metrics.

Every motor for tractors (either 18-wheeler or Industrial machinery) is either an inline 4 or inline 6. Most being 6 cylinder. If longevity is what you seek, keep the hurricane 6.
I do agree that the i-6 engines themselves aren't that bad but the added plastics and electronics play a major roll in why I'll never own a hurricane 6.

I can’t disagree with you. I guess time will only tell. Thus far, 2500 miles in, I haven’t had any issues. 2500 in lol let’s see in 22500 how I feel. I’m in a lease so worst case scenario I’ll just get out of it at end of term.

That low-end torque is like no other. I now have the twin turbo hurricane, and it definitely is faster than my old hemi but that Hemi really does have that grunt that you really cannot get from the inline 6.
I do have mix feelings about this whole v8/Hurricane motor. That’s my contention; pros and cons with both.
No V8 Hurricane motor. Or did I miss something? lol...
