hello everyone im new to the forum of course, anybody by chance wired in a auxiliary light bar and tapped in the highbeam module inside the drivers side housing. Havent dug to deep into this but i was told pin 18 was a good source? Any diagrams would greatly be appreciated as some sources have not updated to the new year....Cheers from Alaska

Just use a relay off the high beam wire. Add a 2 or 3 way switch in the cab if you want to be able to have the light bar always off and/or always on. But if you don’t care for a switch wiring will be very simple

can you think of a way to switch it so it would be "on - off - on with high beams" ?
i cant invision that, not with a single 3 position switch
i could see a master off swith (just disrupt the ground) and a second "on - on with high beams" switch

Um yes, that’s how 3 positions work. With all due respect you don’t sound familiar with 12v wiring.

I didn’t have a 3 position handy so my truck is switched between on with high beams and always off.

SPDT switch, center lug is your common out to the power side of the relays switch leg (terminal #86) outer legs of the SPDT switch would have one feed from a constant 12 volt source, the other leg would be fed from your high beam trigger.

so you're basically wiring it in backwards?
i can see that working

thanks, i had the hardest time envisioning that

Wouldn't really call it backwards,as it's pretty common to wire a relay that way if you want to use 2 differant trigger sources, lol

the way i had it in my mind, the flow went from the center pole to one (or none) of the outer poles
so to have power coming in from one or the other outer poles to the center seems backwards

but im sure you're right and thats just the way i see it, not the way it is conventionally done

come to think of it, i only remember wiring a SPDT switch twice

once on a home audio system, where i added a second center speaker to a surround sound system
the one center speaker was in the conventional spot, beneath the TV and i added a second one mounted to the back of the couch , right behind my ears

i used the SPDT switch, signal going into the center pole and one outer going to the conventional speaker, the other outer pole going behind the couch

the other was actually a DPDT switch (which is basically two SPDTs in tandem, no?)
i used that one to run the rear plow on my superdookie, power goes into the center pole and out the outer poles
push the top of the switch an the plow raises, push the bottom and the plow drops

and that is the extend of my experience with DT switches

You're right a DPDT double pole/double throw switch is usually just 2 SPST switches using a common switch.
I used to build HO slotcar tracks on the side years ago,and using DPDT switches was a requirement if you wanted to wire in dynamic brakes and also use a switch to reverse car direction, same with remote nitrous bottle openers, lol.
