it was a dealer day fun run, very heavy street tires (305/50R20 Grappler's), Hot Summer day (4500' DA)
absolutely no track prep (VHT traction promoter was not sprayed) so **** poor times due to crap traction
...but me and a buddy made it fun hot lapping near the end trying to tree each other in 4WD.

I expect to crush all those times, Ripp Supercharger recently installed,
Just need to install my "Built" transmission, Water/**** kit, Aeromotive Stealth 340 fuel pump....and get it all tuned to run together.
Now have JBA shorty headers, and I'm about to gut the cat's since my rear o2's have been tuned out.

So far she'll do 0-60 in 4 seconds flat on my Heavy Grappler's/20's with stock shift points (5600rpm) :naughty:
That will be in the 3's on my DR's in AWD (4-auto) at the track for sure! hope my top end turns out as well as the hole shot!
My Edge is now flashing to 3300 rpm at full throttle launch with the extra Torque from the blower.

for shifts do you use manual mode, or just let the trans do its thing?

My first year I used manual (2nd prime upshift),
But stopped when I heard it was a transmission killer.

I dont even kick down from over drive anymore on the highway,
always shift to 3rd or 4th first before punching it out for passing.

Could be the reason I'm deep into my 4th season of racing and my stock trans is still alive.
Even with 500whp after I installed my Ripp supercharger its solid!

Trust me peep's

Put it in Drive and point it straight...that is all!
Killing your transmission is NOT worth a tenth of a second.

(just ask TylerB)

Hey now, I've only used 2nd prime a handful of times at the track, dropped only a hundreth or two when using it. My problem was something in the tuning that Johan, Hemifever, and Whitelightning were experimenting with to raise shift points on these '11s and '12s.

4 tenths quicker than you bud ;) I didn't need headers or dedicated track wheels to run what I did either. Also did it in 1500-2000 DA.

But did you do it with 3.55 gears an open rear diff, 400+ more weight , stock converter
and 4x4 rolling drive train (turning a transfer case, 4 axles and two drive shafts)?
Our DA starts at +2500 on a Good Day, and usually sits around 4000' during track season

400lbs extra weight is 4 tenths alone

DA corrected to sea level I would have been door to door with you Bud ;)

FWIW, my slip is from May 13 2011 and long before I had my shorty headers or Edge TC installed
I was just on Maggy CatBack,Intake,Tune and Tires at the time.

all in good fun brother, sorry to hear about your trans,
Why not give MGH a pm for a quote on a built trans and continue your quest for an NA 12 sec slip!

You can keep your fast 13 sec run brother,
I'm going to move up to the 12's next time I post a slip, hope to see you there too.

With my Track 2300' higher than yours and shuts down in the Winter from September to May due to snow
My heavy 4x4 pig on 3.55's needs Boost to run with you featherweights that get to run in neg DA with 4.10's

He is the main tuner from Diablo. He goes by Diablotoona on forums.

AJ is the one that works for Arrington.

I wish I had some extra cash laying around. I'll tell you I wouldn't be rebuilding any 545 POS, I don't care who builds it. I'll be swapping in a 66rfe from a 2012 HD Hemi.

That would be awesome if you could get the tuning to work,
AFAIK the TCM is Tied to the 1500's PCM and I dont think you can use yours without getting incorrect ratio codes sending you into limp mode.

A PCM from an HD Hemi would have to be flashed to work in your 1500

From the "other board" :

The 68 Trans also has a completely different bellhousing.

That gearset from the 68rfe or 66rfe is a much better gearset than the one in the 545rfe(ratios are spread more evenly, lower first gear, and taller final gear), and it is supposedly stronger which should be obvious since it's from a 2500 ram not a 1500 ram. I'd be really interested in more info on the transmission work, and cost, as I'd be interested in it myself just for the better ratios. Thanks and good luck with the truck!

I also rebuild the pump so that it produces up to 250 psi and modify the valve body. When you put all that together you have a trans that can handle more TQ, that shifts hard, but not harsh.

Josh(fasthemiram) and I have both been looking into this. It's not a straight swap, but it will work. Force flashing the 2012 2500 PCM with our VIN won't be a problem for Arrington. If Diablo can program the PCM an 05 Ram for a 2500 Hemi HD manual trans program to run a T-56, then this will be no different.
There's some other minor things like the slip yoke being slightly larger diameter on the 66rfe and the for the 4wd the transfer case being slightly different, but like I said these are minor if you remove the tail/ t-case of your 545 transmission and swap to the 66. It uses the same torque converter as well and we can re-use the stock driveshaft, although a custom aluminum shaft would great.
Even after all Mike does for his transmission builds, it's still gonna be a 545 with 2nd prime and less than stellar ratios.

Sounds like you're on the right track then :favorites13:

I cant believe Ram owners have been stuck with such turds for so long.
I was hoping a Jeep NAG would have been an option, but that's also a tuning issue too.

Swapping nuts and bolts is the easy part,
it's the tuning issues that keep shade-tree mechanics at the mercy of the computer geeks.

BRH,that Jeep sitting in the pic beside your truck, does he do 100' pulls.
Looks an awful lot like the Jeep that made it into the final round of 100' pulls at Carstairs awhile ago.
If it's the same Jeep,it was mighty quick on a 100' pull.

Just when did CA,Corrected Altitude become DA,took me awhile to figure out what the hell you guys were talking about.

13.70's out of a 77 400M powered 77 shortbox Ford way back in the late 70's,on a track at 3,000ft.

Truck paid for itself street racing back then,as 13.70's then was faster then hell out of a truck, and everybody and their dog would race it for 50 bucks

There's about a half dozen SRT8 Jeeps at Castol on a regular basis,
some stock, a Ripp sc, a Maggy sc, even one with twin turbo's out of Red Dear
...but that one was mostly stock and only mid to high 13's.

Corrected Altitude never took into account Temperature, Humidity and Barometric Pressure, it was only Elevation

DragTimes has a tool to do all the calculations for you if your track is on their list :

Sum-***** ran my old street tired 401 powered Hornets numbers and the car was good for 11.3's,at 120 on it's last days at the track.
Kinda question their weather info though, they claim it was 76F for that specific day,and that's a long ways off the 93F we recorded at the track that afternoon.
Track factored out at well over 5,000 ft altitude, knew that one though.
Good site,thanks for the lead.
