I’m in the process of selling my 2013 ram 1500 with 5.7. I’m well aware of the manifold bolt issue as I had it repaired 4 times under warranty.

I’m planning on buying a 2500 with a 6.4. My question is the 6.4 just as bad?

Is the manifold bolt issue still a problem on new trucks?

Thanks for any help.

I want to say yes but not as much, I believe there are cases of it happening, but not as wide spread as the 5.7.

Thank you.

My 2014 6.4 had really and I mean really loud injectors, almost sounded like an exhaust manifold leak, had it inspected at a exhaust shop and they couldn’t find any leaks and the dodge dealer said it was the injectors which made sense. Ram switched injector part numbers in 2015 which led me to lean towards “ ya that could be the injectors” and obviously there was an issue of ram switched part numbers.

I remember trying to read up on this a couple years ago after I had bought my 2500. If memory serves me correctly the 6.4 has been rather bulletproof compared to the 5.7 in regards to the manifold bolt issue. I remember on my 1500 having those damn things fixed a few times but happily it was all covered by Dodge with both the factory and Maxcare warranty.

My 6.4 is so quiet you can hear a mouse fart. The 3.6 in my Wrangler can be clacky at times but it's been like that since day 1. My brother got the Hemi tick around 50K miles.
IDK. Maybe it's all just a crapshoot.

Are aftermarket manifolds/headers lasting longer on the 5.7?

So replacing the bolts with „stronger“ bolts would not help?

You can find a lot of information and answers to your question on this forum in archives. I have had 2 2018 2500 6.4 CC Rams. The first one was diagnosed with exhaust manifold leaks at 100 miles. The second at 80 miles. However only "some" of the 6.4 2500 have this issue. Most do not and there are fewer in the 6.4 than the 5.7. The cause of the 6.4 exhaust leak is well known. Dealer refer to it as a "factory defect" The manifold bolts are either over torqued or under torqued. This results in a leak between the aluminum head and cast iron manifold. It actually sounds like a serpentine pulley with a bad bushing. Screech/hiss noise on start up. Some also had y pipe leaks. That part now has a new # ending with AD. Believe that leak has been addressed. I have 2200 miles on my replacement 2500. I have ordered the parts that MOPAR tells me I need. My tech will do the repair. I do not trust the dealer techs that are available to us. My tech has corrected a few of these because he follows the factory specs for assembly and tightening. These are excellent trucks, with this one exception. The ones that are assembled correctly tend to not have this issue.

Might call arp and see if they can put together a stud package that the dealer/mopar will sign off on if it becomes a reoccurring issue.
