I have a 6 inch lift installed on my truck. I currently run toyo open country 35 inch tires. I need some new tires and I'm thinking of upgrading to 37 inch tires. Is it worth the extra cost for an inch of height? I care about extra width as well as I have some wide fender flares. I run 3.92 gears fyi.

Should be close to 2", and yes, its well worth it not only in the looks department, but in the performance department as well, assuming you want/need the extra clearance.

IMHO you better save your pennies and get a set of at least 4.56's if your going to 37's. With your 3.92's I don't think your going to be very happy performance wise

I looked into changing gears. For a 2013 1500 ram it's very expensive

But I think well worth it. I have not heard anyone complain that has made the swap. You might talk to SOCAL, he has 37's and he also put in 4.56's.

I know what he means. It's a 2 inch addition of height but that's overall. Bottom one inch and top one inch. So it's in essence only one inch higher
????, Could you care to elaborate a little more ?

I'm still a new when it comes to this trucks, so what bottom and what top ? the diff pumpkings will go up 1.5-2" front and back on 37's with respect to 35's, that's how i look at it, I come from the Jeep Wrangler world, so this type of conversations are the norm hahaha.

In any case, scroll down to see a side by side with 3 different tires, One 35", two 37's, look at the difference in size between the GY MT's and the BFG KO2's, both 37..

http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org/viewtopic.php?t=4334&start=100

You can also check this thread, little nice tire size database to give you a comparison point on the tires that you may have now, compared to what you could have. Notice the way they measure, that way it gives you a comparison point and a way to measure yours to reference somebody else setup...

With respect of gearing, i can feel the difference between running the factory 33" like tires for example, vs the 35's i have now (315/70/17), not by much, but she doesnt have the same peppy grunt she had before down low, i have 3.92's with the 65rfe trans, to put it in better perspective, i was turning 1950rpm with the factory size tires at 70mph, now with 35's, i'm turning 1850rpm, if i did 37's, i'll be turning 1700rpm, not optimal, but still better RPM than the same truck equipped with 3.21's and factory size tires (1600rpm), so with 37's in my truck it'll be equivalent of having a Hemi Crew Cab with 3.21's (minus the weight of the wheel/tire combo of course)

You can use this calculator to give you an idea where you will be depending on the tire size, use the numbers on the DB above for tire size, yes they look small in paper, but that's how the tire rolls with with the weight of the vehicle on them, and that's also what the PCM sees to calculate MPH, MPG etc etc. Yes 35's are not 35's, in a way, except if if you go with those GY MT's, Pitbull rockers, Super Swampers etc, etc, not all tires are created equal.... the last 3 are example of tires that are bigger than other commercial brands given the same advertised size, if i did 37's, i'd like to have 4.56's, that would put me at 2000rpm at 70mph, which is the equivalent of 3.92's with factory height tires and the 6 speed trans.

Regarding tire size, The axle is in the center of the tire (circle), not on top of it. Thus a 2" increase in tire diameter only nets you 1" of ground clearance increase. You will only gain 1/2 of overall tire size increase in ground clearance, as only half of the increase is below the axle. The other half is above the axle. Think geometrically :).

When I got tires at DT, I compared my 37’s with 35’s and it was a big difference to me. That said I do think 35’s look good on a 4-6” lift

@2batruck ....I have 8” of front lift on 20x9’s and I had to trim my front airdam so be prepared but it all depends on wheel width and offset, plus some tires run smaller so you might be ok.

35 to 37 comparison

This is correct as the tires overall diameter is a circle and the hub mounts to the center point ; therefore, 1in above and below the center mounting point .
The main advantage of moving up to 37 in tires is a ONE inch increase in ground clearance for the Differentials . This only matters if you run in deep mud .

I have a 14 1500 with 38s now. I started out back in the day with the 305/55s, then to 35s, 37s, and now 38s. I can tell you from my perspective that when my 38s are ready to be replaced (in the near future), I am going back to 35s. I burn more gas with the 37s and 38s than I did with my 35s. The truck rode better with the 35s. And balancing the bigger tires were a pain for the shop.

Like I said, going back to 35s.
