This is my 1st one ton, and my 1st dually, so I was really excited to get some miles on it. To start, this is not my first Cummins, I have owned:
2005 5.9
2007 5.9
2011 6.7
2013 6.7
2016 6.7
My 5.9's were by far the easiest trucks. The 2005 would eat transmission unfortunately. The 2007 was my easiest and most durable truck to date, that's why I drove it the longest. My 2011 was interesting, constant regens, and fuel diluted oil. 2013 was a big improvement, quiet, great ride quality, good power, my most fuel efficient one to that date. My 2016 was lousy, hands down, the worst riding truck I ever owned, and the programmed in throttle delay was deadly in my opinion! Ditched that thing quickly.
Now I am back in a Cummins for 2021 (coming from two 6.4 2500's) in between. The drivability in the new 6.7 is outstanding, and this truck is huge! That deadly throttle delay is no longer present, it accelerates like a normal vehicle now. Ride quality and comfort are outstanding for a 1 ton dually, and light years better than my 2016 2500. It drives normal, accelerates hard, its quiet, comfortable and very easy to drive around town. In this chassis, I no longer feel the extreme mass of the 6.7 out front, my 2500's always felt like I had 3 yards of wet concrete slung out over the front axle.
I have not towed yet (was working on getting 500 miles on it first) but will be hitching up next week to the camper. I really look forward to comparing it to my 2019 2500 6.4 8-speed 4.10 gears that I have been towing with. Also interested to see what the fuel economy difference will be. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the 2021 so far, and hopefully, I will get many towing miles under it here soon.
