A deep fog has rolled in.

The last two weeks I've noticed my interior windows are constantly fogged up. When I open the windows I don't notice a difference. The defroster does positively affect the front and side windows but the back windows stay fogged for the most part. I've wiped the windows with a dry cloth but the next day or so the fog returns. It hasn't rained in a while and the humidity isn't abnormally high here in the northeast. All the windows have been checked and close properly. I have checked for leaks along the back near the third brake light and it is dry.

The truck has 5000 mikes on it and AC works fine as well as the heat. I can't imagine a heat core leak. Akom's Razor leads me to look for the simplest answer. Maybe it is humid but my wife's car is not experiencing the same phenomenon.

Any suggestions? I am leaving all the windows open all day today toe see if airing the truck out will increase or decrease fogging.

Usually this indicates excess moisture in the cab from a leak somewhere. You said you checked the third brake light area, but what about up by the dash? Could be a leaking around the windshield or in the firewall somewhere. Do you smell coolant at all? Could also be a bad heater core that has a small leak...

I don't smell coolant. I'll check both the back and front windows for seals but it hasn't rained in two weeks. I can't find any signs of water infiltration and nothing remains wet. I understand that a heater core leak could cause this. I'm hoping with 5000 miles it isn't that. How would I check if it is?

Thanks for the response.

Usually it gets the passenger footwell wet but sometimes it runs behind the carpet. I would say it's not that because you would smell coolant every time you ran the defroster.

Peel back the carpet from the firewall area and see if its wet. Might have to pop some trim out to get the carpet back.

Also do you have a sunroof?

I do not have a sunroof. The windows fog up as soon as I enter the vehicle but not so much when I'm not in it. I'm don't produce that much moisture unless Ive got a developing problem.

I'll look around at the carpet and check near the firewall, maybe if that isn't successful I'll hose down the truck to check for water infiltration. Vehicles have an AC condensation drip hose which in many cars if clogged drains into the front passenger seat foot well. Any ideas of the location in the ram or any related issue to that?

I appreciate your help.

Oh yeah I forgot about the condensation drip hose, that would make things fog up for sure. Turn your defroster on to cold with highest fan setting and it should be dripping pretty good in a few minutes. If not then it's clogged. No idea where it is tho....

Check the floor behind your back seat. If either the rear window or third brake light are leaking you will find moisture when you fold up the back seat.
