'17 3500 Cummins, 2 high output (220 amps?) alternators
Has anybody here gone directly from the alternator or battery to the rear of the truck, to charge travel trailer batteries? I know I can get a theoretical 30 amps at the 7 pin, but was warned that the entire 7 pin uses a single ground, so the electric trailer brakes are less effective when charging a battery near max amperage. The same source brought up that 10g wire on a long run, plus resistance from the 7 pin can cause significant enough voltage drop.
There's obviously not much room under the hood, and curious about how much of a PITA it would be.
