2014 Ram 1500 with air suspension. Just bought the truck. Front bags will never lift. Rear ones work. Immediate suspension code. C156E. Using Alpha with MX. Trying to write values but errors out every time. This time it says Exhaust Valve Faulty. Any thoughts or specific instructions to get them to write please. I have tried everything. Brand new valve block.

As this level of computer was not in the 81-93 platform and seeing as you have a 2014, you might try asking this in the 4th gen section.

Let's tackle the issue with your 2014 Ram 1500's air suspension system. You've mentioned that the front air bags aren't lifting, the rear ones are functioning, and you're encountering a C156E code using AlphaOBD with an MX interface. Additionally, you're receiving an "Exhaust Valve Faulty" error, even after replacing the valve block. Here's a structured approach to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:

Understanding the C156E Code

The C156E code typically indicates a Ride Height System Calibration Performance issue. This means the Air Suspension Control Module (ASCM) detects that the ride height sensors haven't been calibrated or are providing inconsistent data. (JustAnswer, JustAnswer)

️ Diagnostic Steps

  1. Verify Valve Block Installation:
    • Ensure that the new valve block is correctly installed and that all electrical connectors are securely attached.
    • Double-check the orientation and connections of the air lines to the valve block.
  2. Inspect Front Air Bags:
    • Examine the front air bags for any visible damage or leaks.
    • Listen for any hissing sounds that might indicate air escaping.
    • Use a soapy water solution to spray on the air lines and connections to detect leaks.
  3. Check Height Sensors:
    • Inspect the front ride height sensors for proper installation and operation.
    • Ensure the sensor arms are connected and not damaged.
    • Test the sensors using AlphaOBD to see if they provide real-time data.(RamForum)
  4. Exhaust Valve Functionality:
    • Even with a new valve block, the "Exhaust Valve Faulty" message suggests a potential issue with the exhaust valve's electrical circuit.
    • Use a multimeter to check for continuity and proper voltage at the exhaust valve connector.
    • Inspect the wiring harness for any signs of damage or corrosion.
  5. Air Compressor Check:
    • Ensure the air compressor is operational.
    • Listen for the compressor running when attempting to adjust ride height.
    • Check the compressor's fuse and relay for proper function.
  6. AlphaOBD Calibration:
    • Use AlphaOBD to perform a ride height calibration.
    • Navigate to the air suspension module and select the "Calibrate Ride Height" function.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the calibration process.(RamForum, Vigor Air Ride)
  7. System Reset:
    • Perform a system reset by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for about 30 minutes.
    • Reconnect the battery and check if the issue persists.(Vigor Air Ride)

Additional Considerations

  • Software Updates:
    • Ensure that your vehicle's software is up to date.
    • Sometimes, software glitches can cause persistent errors.
  • Professional Diagnosis:
    • If the issue remains unresolved, consider consulting a professional technician with experience in Ram air suspension systems.
    • They can perform more in-depth diagnostics and have access to specialized tools.
