Can I change just the bulb in my projectors?

What kind of bulb is actually behind the projectors on a 2014 Laramie? I'd like to get something that puts out a lot more light. I do NOT wanna fool around with hid, just looking for a simple, direct bulb replacement. Also, was thinking about Philips xtreme vision, Putco pure, or ge nighthawk xenon. Don't xenon bulbs last much longer? Any advice, info, or suggestions are appreciated.

Its a 9012 so if you can find a brighter light like a syilvania ultra that would work

As mentioned it is a 9012, I know you said no to an hid replacement but I think you won't be satisfied with a halogen replacement. An HID replacement will be 10x's better.

So it's just a halogen? I thought it was xenon or something. Are there any led or xenon bulbs anyone would recommend for my light? I want whatever has the best light, but also lasts a long time.

Also, is there a separate bulb for high beam?

Same bulb for high beam and N1ck is right a good set of HIDs would be hard to not put in. 2012 is a normal holegen build just has more output than a 2006. Check out miriomto HIDs honestly best HID on the market and customer service is awesome.

Aren't hid quite a project? Also, I've heard it's illegal to run hid in a headlight that doesn't have them from factory bc the housing is not designed for it.

You mean 9012 and 9006? What all is involved with installing hid on my truck? How long will it take? How long do they last compared to xenon, etc.

So if I just bought a xenon/led 9012 I could just direct swap right?

Is there a separate bulb for high beam, or is it ran off same bulb?

It is a grey area, yes it is technically illegal. Run a 4300-6000k bulb and you won't have any issues. Our projectors can easily handle an hid upgrade. Installing an hid kit is no harder than swapping bulbs, in both cases you need to pull the grill and headlight housing out. I would set 2 hrs aside to do it the first time, I've done it multiple times on my '13/'14 and the swap can be done in 30-45 mins. I personally use vvme.com kits with a error code canceller due to price and reasonable quality but retro shop seems to be a favourite here.

Here is my $31 vvme 9006 hid kit with the cancellers in the projectors.

It just seems like a lot of money and hassle compared to just pulling out a bulb and putting a new one in. Plus you have to wire in harnesses, all that too right? I'd consider hid, anyone have part numbers for what I'd need?

Again, are there separate bulbs for high and low beam???? And what are the bulb sizes for sure?

Any recommendations as far as xenon or led? How long does each one last?

The 2012 and 2006 were just a comparison. Your truck only uses a single 2012. There are so few 2012 lights out there that I honestly couldn't recommend anything that will last longer than the other. What I can say is all the xenon bulbs I've had standard bulbs last longer.

I don't follow you, halogen or hid you still need to do the same work, cost is not much different, read my post, $80 shipped. Up to you with what you want to do, just saying you probably won't be happy with a halogen upgrade.

Will someone please answer my questions...

What size bulbs do I need specifically for my truck?

Are there separate bulbs for high and low beams?

How much longer will hid last than led or xenon? How long are they all supposed to last?

Any recommendations, or part numbers?

9012 is the bulbs size. Hid or halogen replacement be 9006. That is your low beam, high beam is a separate bulb, just go and look at your housing...

Start reading some hid threads, seems like you need to do some researching there are tons of threads covering all the basics, good luck!

Ok...so you're saying it's a 9012 in it right now, but if I replace it I will be using a 9006 bulb?

What about high beams?

What about high beams?

You currently have a 9012 HIR2 bulb. This will be the brightest 55 watt halogen bulb. You dont want to put a 9006 in, nearly have the lumens. A common mod is the 9006 to 9012 bulb for more light.

An easy setup for more light would be simply upgrading to HID. A proper retrofit is always desired, but we wont debate that here. If you throw a HID bulb in your projector, there may be a minimal amount of glare. Fortunately, the HID bulbs play much better in the halogen projectors then they do in the reflector housings.

If you want more light, but not overkill, a 35 watt HID ballast, and a 4300k bulb will give a nice white light, and will be a night and day difference in output. The 50 watt ballast will be an extreme difference in light output. The Ram does have a crazy electrical system, and CANBUS error cancellers are a must.

I believe the high beams on your lights are a 9005. You can upgrade that to a 9011, but involves a little trimming of a tabs on the bulb. That is just a brighter halogen upgrade to HIR.

HID's generally have a much longer lifespan over halogen. LED, can have a long lifespan, but, the technology is still spanning, and keeping them cool is still an issue. They have a ways to go before I would want to trust them.

If it were me, I would just do the HID bulbs and the 9011 high beam(if you use your high beams often). I think you would be more than satisfied with the light quality and output.

Then, if you wanted, you can upgrade the fogs as well with the 9012's you yanked out of the headlights. :)

Only one bulb and that's the 2012. Projectors take care of high and low beam by closing a shutter so you only have the one bulb.
