Hey guys,
I'm going out this weekend to look at another used '19. QC V8 with level 2 equipment package. 13,000 miles. Dealer has it at priced at $30,400. Per Carfax, it sold originally to The Michigan Motor Vehicle Department in August of '19 and was registered as a rental vehicle.
Would this history deter any of you? I'm not quite sure what to make of it, if anything.

That price is little high IMO.
Is it a big horn or higher trim level?
Classic or new body?

My '17 QC was a rental from Enterprise. Not one issue with it. I bought it with around 26,000 miles. I now have 48,000 miles.

One of the best used vehicles I’ve ever purchased came out of the Enterprise rental fleet. Could be I got lucky, rentals can be abused but they also are generally very well maintained.

I'm not sure why a State Motor Vehicle Dept would have a rental fleet, but if the truck looks clean and well cared for I wouldn't hesistate to buy it. Good luck.

That's about 500 miles a week so it didn't set still. You should be able to get idle hours from the evic also just to check.

2/2/20 is supposed to be the start of Ram month so I'd still be looking at new for comparison. Until I bought my 19 Laramie my last four vehicles were used, usually about a year old and 12,000 miles. I had excellent luck but you will want to check Carfax to see what capacity the truck was used for if it's available. I'd think that the state buying a truck for only one year would be unusual but not necessarily bad.

My 17 was a rental before I bought it. Nothing was wrong with the truck and I had no issues out of it.

Ya, nothing wrong with a low mile rental
My 17 whytram i bought with 10,500, traded it with 66k. Just the usual exhaust manifold issues...drivers side at 18k, passenger side at 48k
If its clean and you're happy......

My truck was an Enterprise rental as well. 2017 that I bought in 2018 with 27K miles. Has been completely trouble free, looks like new.

I can't really speak to the pricing, it depends on what else is available locally, and who knows what else.

I too was thinking of waiting to see what Ram month brought. As for this truck, per Carfax it was originally titled in August of '19 so it was more like half a year, which seems strange.

6 grand more isn't gonna touch Level 2 equipment group with v8 around here.

Are you sure? I bought my 2019 Ram crew 4wd 5.7 Bighorn Level 2 North package, tow package, buckets, fancy paint, couple of other things for $36750. And I got a spray-in bedliner in the deal. Not including state sales tax & registration. And I live in a heavy truck area. Winter is usually a pretty good time to buy a new truck in terms of pricing. My sticker was $50k so that's almost 27% off MSRP.

I would tend to agree with everyone who is saying it's okay to buy a rental. At least in this case. That's because it is a truck. I'm not saying it can't be abused, because it definitely could be. But it's not typical use for a truck. Most damage from abuse for a truck is cosmetic. Now, if you'd have asked about buying a performance car that was once a rental car, I'd tend to avoid those. I've seen first-hand how those are abused by renters. Hell, I'd avoid any used performance car, even if it wasn't a rental car, unless I was very familiar with it's use and maintenance history.

Go negotiate your best deal on a comparable truck new and then calculate the difference in total cost at payoff based on the interest rate new VS used. You can get a lot off the sticker price on a new, 0 miles, full warranty, never been driven like it was a rental truck, truck.
