I got a set of cab lights for Christmas, but I’m having second thoughts about drilling my roof to install them. I’ve always liked the look of cab lights, and I think they will look good on my truck, I’m just not sure if it’s worth the hassle of pulling the headliner and drilling the roof.

Here’s my truck without the lights.

And here it is with the lights roughly positioned, just setting on the roof.

So, what do you think; install them, or not?

I wouldn't put them on mine,I prefer the clean look.If I had a 2500 or a 3500 then maybe I would consider it as I think they are more suited for the heavy duty trucks.

You've already done some nice things to the truck, in my opinion the lights would be a nice addition!

My vote is install them!

I really like the look of those dark gray clearance lights on your silver truck. You've got a nice balance of chrome and black going on with that truck.

Do it.

Worse case scenario is you use rtv and duct tape to cover up your screw up.

I’m not helping huh lol.

I say no, drilling into the roof just to have some lights for appearance isn't worth it if for whatever reason they leak. They are more suited for 2500, 3500s anyway. It is easy for others to say do it when they are not drilling into their truck so take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt. Typically the gut instinct is the right one.

On the right setup they look good but my $.2 I damn sure wouldn’t be drilling into the roof of my truck to install them I just think what could go wrong and you start to open a can of worms.

I want them on my 1500, but like you, I am not drilling into my roof. I am also too cheap to pay someone else to do it.

Also, the Amber lights look better imho.

I’m with the no group because it’s just more potential problems.

It’s not hard and you don’t have to pull/drop the headliner. All you do is remove the front A pillar grab handle trim, visors and upper console. You just need it to lower enough to get your arm in there to fish the light harness to each hole. I slit a trash bag and put the plastic above the headliner to catch any shavings but 90% was on the outside. That metal is paper thin, a hole saw goes right thru it. I installed mine about 9 months ago and I haven’t had any leaks or any issues.

Keep in mind I installed the Mopar kit, it seals better than aftermarket

Mine was also the Mopar set and it didn’t bother me in the least to drill. :)

IMHO, no friggin way, that is a 2500, 3500 Look. And to drill into roof, hmmmmm, but that just me. Your truck and do what makes U happy, regardless of opinions...............

My vote is "NO". I have clearance lights on my 2500, but not by choice, now I have to go back to the dealer to have the lamps sealed because they leak.

Your money/truck, knock yourself out if that is the path you want. Remember once the hole is made it is permanent. If the hole is off, everyone will notice.

Good Luck

Lol, anyone know why trucks even have them? Besides being mandated for trucks over 80 inches wide.

I would love to have them on mine. I just can't bring myself to drill through the roof though.
