Sup fellas, I may be trading in my truck tomorrow for a 2016 2500 6.7 4x4 crew cab tradesman. They have it listed for 39k which is the lowest I've seen anywhere. I'm gonna get bent on my trade by about 6k. Because I'm trading in my truck I'll get like a 3k tax break and I figure I can get about a grand for the parts I'm gonna take off before I trade it. Taking the night to sleep on it. In the end I'd end up paying 46k otd for the new truck. Deal or no deal ......go

Quite honestly, you'll be throwing money away. But in the end it's your money so it's all up to you if you feel it's worth it.

you have not given us enough information. What is the sticker price on the new turck, what was the price paid on the trade and how many miles and its condition.

The most important thing about this deal is, whats the sticker price and whats the actual price you are going to pay for it ( before tax, title and trade in ).

And dont figure in the "tax break". Can you sell your used truck for over $3k more than the dealer is giving you? If not, than you hammer the hell out of them to up the trade in value. People say you cant, but many can get damn close to blue book value ( excellent, very good or good ) depending on its condition. Dont let them give you the ******** line about wholesale trade in value or black book value. Believe nothing that comes out of the salesman's mouth.....period.

The sticker on the new truck originally was 49k and they have it marked down to 39. My truck I paid 35 for and it has 23k miles on it and is in good condition.

Initially they said 22.5 for my trade to which I said hell no. They have a new truck identical to mine for 26k which is why they are low balling me. Going to work on my trade value more, I knew I'd take a hit but that is crazy.

$49k down to $39k is just about 21% off sticker.......so thats actuallly a pretty good deal, especiallly on a 2016. My rule of thumb, as well as many others on here is 17-18% off sticker is barely a fair deal, 19-21% or more off and your in very good deal territory, 22% off or more and you've done great.

Hammer them more for the trade and also, walk away after tomorrow, no matter what. Go back in there with 4-5 days left in the month and hammer them for more on the trade.......and still walk away. You will get the phone call you want within 24 hours. It may not be as much as you want for the used truck, but it will likely be their best offer.

ps.....take all your aftermarket **** off ( based on oyur sig ) and sell it to recoup some of your money, bc the dealership isnt giving you anything for it on the trade.

here is where i am at with this....

your upside down 6k...

you are getting a diesel which will last a lifetime if maintained.

this is what i would do, if you like the truck, and want the truck.. start going after the extra stuff, ex. sidesteps, bedliner, etc...

you will get your happiness in the end when it is sitting in your drive. you only live once

Upside down, is always a bad move. What happens in a year or 2 if you don't like this one. Upside down is vicious cycle to break. Just saying. Your money, oh and at very least get gap insurance.

Do you need a diesel right now? If so, get it, if not, wait and sell your truck. Dennis Dillon has similar pricing all the time to what you've listed (they will bend you over on your trade though). If you're thinking about making a quick decision for this deal, just wait, sell your truck with the extras to someone that wants your truck as it is and get what you owe. You lose money trading and won't get near the value for used parts. It's not like your upgrading to a higher model, it's just the diesel that's different.

I say no deal, but that's just me. See if they'll either come down slightly on the asking price (which already seems like a decent deal IMO) or go up on the trade-in. At the very least, if they won't budge on the trade-in, see if they'll throw in the spray in bedliner and some side-steps or something.

Personally, I would say no because of being upside down so much. Like everyone else is saying, that is a vicious cycle to start and get out from under. In the end it's your money and if it's eating you up then go for it and don't look back.

I wouldnt get upside down unless you absolutely "need" a diesel, or if your truck is going to start making you money. Ive been down the diesel road before and as long as things go good, they can run forever, but when things dont go good, and it happens more than people think, they get very expensive very quick!

One factor to consider as well is financing %

I traded my '14 express in for a '15 sport. I knew I was "losing" money theoretically. But I also got 0% on the new one. So in the long run I more than made it up in savings from not having to pay interest on the previous loan.

Trading in and applying negative equity is bad hole to be in. Drive what you got and cool down on the new truck fever a little bit.

As others have said, once you get upside down, it is a vicious cycle. I am in that cycle now, and I am almost out of it with this truck, but still. I have huge problem, of when I want it, I get it and they "make it work" and away I go.

Be careful with it.

No deal man.....the new truck sounds like a good deal, but you don't want to carry money over. Wait until next year so u can break even on your trade in....that's the elephant in the room for you.

At your age being upside down is not a good place to be as retirement comes faster than you think. My old rule was if one can't put at least 33% down then wait. Even now I would never finance more than 25% of the vehicles msrp but then again that's me and well you know.

I have to agree with my collegues. Resist the urge to buy a new one. Get it paid down more and push hard. I paid off my '09 early and sucked up having a truck I really wasn't happy with. In the end I got more for my trade and was able to get up from the table when I didn't like the numbers I heard the dealer offering. That is a VERY powerful position to be in and I ended up with a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty, service package and some free extra goodies, plus what I WANTED for my trade, not what they were hoping for.

Also I negotiated the price and intrest rate with my bank first so I knew what my max was and only have 4 years of payments as opposed to the standard 5 or 6. It felt great being able to tell the bank I was almost 15K under what they were willing to give me.

In the end I appreciate my '09 hanging in there with me and helping me build my credit up to the point I could get my new truck, R/V and some other goodies.
