I bought a 09 ram and it has Chrome “covers” on the door handles. I don’t know if these came factory or whatever but I need them gone. Was curious if anybody has removed these? How difficult are they to remove, do I need to purchase black covers to replace them?

I had a 2013 ram big horn and put on Putco door handle covers they set in place with double faced tape so I would guess try to pry them off with a plastic tool and a rag under the pry point so you don't mess up your paint and residue of the tape a little WD- 40 will remove that

If they truly are just covers then you can remove them and see what color is underneath. Otherwise you’ll need to buy new door handles to replace the chrome.

Thanks for the tip! They are factory but still look like covers. Going to order another door handle and then try to go for it.

I have the same handles, just chrome on the handle and I couldn't find covers that were not the entire bezel, so I wrapped them for $15..

Did you wrap them yourself or pay somebody to do it?

I’ve had poor experiences with vinyl, but I like the idea.

I did it myself, have never wrapped anything before. The handles are not too hard since the chrome doesn't wrap all the way around. Just did it a few days ago, so time will tell if I actually pulled it off.

What kind of vinyl did you use? I may order an extra handle to practice once on then try it. It has to be easier than disassembling the door panel.

I have the same color match + chrome handles. They will be the one of the last things I de-chrome. Just hate taking apart door panels. Haven't decided what I'm gonna do yet.

Yeah, I’m against taking my door panel apart lol. I found some vinyl online I’m going to order tonight and will do some testing. Will likely write up a how to tutorial if it’s not too difficult.

I just grabbed some from PepBoys. AutoZone had some to. It was WrapTech, 6" by 7 feet I think. I have enough left to redo my 4 door a couple more times if I screwed something up, but they look fine for now.

What I did was ordered some cheap covers off Ebay that were fake carbon fiber. Then got a can of color matched paint from the paint code and a can of clear and repainted them body color. Cheap way to do it but looks better than chrome.

Could I bother you to post a picture? I want the chrome off of my truck and this seems like a super easy yet effective way to do it.

So how hard is this stuff to apply? I’m really wanting to get rid of my chrome handles.

I personally didn't find it to difficult and am going to play around more and do some areas on the bezel of my ST next.

Have a good blade, heat gun and something to squeegee. Great thing is you can lift and reapply if you see a bubble. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have wasted the entire roll of vinyl!
