2002 Dodge Truck RAM 1500 1/2 ton 4WD 5.9L SFI 8cyl, 198K miles, automatic
a couple months ago i began noticing a slight "high rev" about thirty feet into 90° left turns from a dead stop under normal acceleration, over the last month the "high rev" has grown into a "high rev/hard drop into '2nd' gear" during 90° left turns from a dead stop which can be 'babied' by controlling acceleration and gently allowing the shift into '2nd' gear. in the last couple weeks i've began noticing at 50-65 mph highway speeds when rounding to the left through highway migration points, the "high rev" may present itself but doesn't provide any evidence of shifting problems. the interesting point (at least to me) is that there are no issues from a stop or otherwise during normal/heavy acceleration of either 90° right turns or when driving straight.
the transmission fluid appears at acceptable levels, nothing is glaringly wrong when i roll around under the chassis.
the transmission had service at 140K miles, by service, i mean i took the truck to goodyear and they drained/refilled the transmission fluid, replaced the transmission filter and charged another $180 for what they called "adjusting the bands" on the transmission as part of regular 100k-200k mileage maintenance. truck/transmission appeared to run normally for ~55k miles from maintenance.
i would consider my mechanic skills as basic, breaks, plugs, radiator flush, starter, alternator replacements on various vehicles, a couple "down hill" push starts on previous manual transmission vehicles, but when it comes to drive train, i understand the concepts, but have no hands-on experience.
i've asked around in my circles, but have only received mention of possibilities ranging from:
* transmission gears replacement
* torque converter
* cracked/broken left side motor mounts (allowing the motor to rotate during left turns)
any advice appreciated...
