Took a trip down to the Sand Hollow sand dunes in Saint George UT to do some 4 wheeling. It was about 500 miles round trip towing 4 quads on my 17 ft trailer that I'm guessing weighs in around 3k pounds loaded up. Hand calculated gas mileage came in just above 13 mpg which I think is pretty good considering the passes we went over while maintaining about 75 mph.

My truck has about 55k miles on it and it seems to pull better and better with age. The transmission doesn't hunt as much as it used to and the hemi feels like it can maintain speed in the lower rpm range more than it used to. Maybe it just me getting used to the way it drives, but I'm happy with it. Here are some pics.

1st suggestion is back off on the speed, and it will get even better. Trailer tires are rated for 65mph. A blowout on that trailer, with that load, at 75mph could be deadly.

^^^^ +1 on the speed. Many people don't realize that ST trailer tires are only rated to 65mph. I do know that there has to be a safety margin built in and they don't self destruct at 66mph, but they can and do blow.
I think trailer tires also tend to have a higher failure rate since they often sit for long periods.

That's great millage though! the open low profile trailer helps. I've actually gotten 13mph a few times with my 4000 lb full height camper as long as the wind cooperatives and there aren't a lot of hills. I only have the 4.7 though.

I hear ya on the speed. I had a tire blow out on my boat trailer a couple years ago and it was a little scary. Now I make sure the tires are in good shape before every trip. The speed limit on I-15 from just south of Salt Lake to almost Vegas is 80 mph with most everyone driving 85+, I keep it between 70-75 and still have big rigs blowing by me.

I hear you(I live in Utah county)! It's hard on 15 sometimes even where the speed limit is only 65. People in Utah either completely disregard, or are oblivious to posted speed limits. They don't seem to know or care that they're creating a dangerous situation for everyone else on the road.
