I changed my brakes and rotors all around, and now my front drivers side brake sounds like metal grinding when I have to slam on them, and occasionally it'll do it when I just brake. I've taken them apart and put them back together again. Could it be the brake shoes are bad? Are the shoes labeled which one goes on the inside and outside, so I could have them backwards? Any input appreciated.

I had this issue... was the clips. Had to get the original clips out of the trash and reuse them, also had to sand the groves down they sit in because of all the rust. When you take them back off if the pad doesnt slide freely with the clip on get a file and start filing the metal down.. and use grease.

Thanks. Unfortunately I changed the brakes a few months ago and I don't have the original clips. I needed an alignment so while Firestone is doing that I asked them to take a look at the brake. If they don't do anything or can't figure it out I'll do as you suggested.

Firestone didn't find any marks on the rotors to indicate rubbing. So I'll remove the clips this weekend grind down the edges and see if that helps. There is back and forth play in the pads so they are installed and working correctly. Hopefully that will stop the grinding noise.

Maybe take a picture? Also does the grinding go away if you gently touch the brake? These front clips are strange and push the pad off the rotor just slightly.. mite just have to tweak/bend the tabs a bit to get the proper tension.

I'll get a picture this weekend. The grinding is sporadic and happens out of the blue...i can't make the brake do it, it just does it out of nowhere when braking. Funny that it's only on one side.
