I read a few threads about nerf bars cracking the stock rocker area sheet steel where the lower nut is bolted through to the aftermarket brackets. I am too scared to remove mine to look, mine dont rattle but has always flexed somewhat :-:)baby:

Is there a solution? I am thinking perhaps a larger metal plate sandwiched in between the bracket face and truck sheet metal to help spread the load?

Any ideas ? I have no metal work skills.

Exactly what you are thinking, add a metal plate to spread the weight across a larger area of the rocker.

Too, if know a good shop, add a bracket to the cab bolt.

Bottom Line, everything will rust out and break off, eventually. My 99 had bolt to the from boards and I think I got a bout 9-10 yrs out of them before they were too weak to trust. COudl nto even get new brackes for them.

goo dluck and let us knw what you end up doing.

Is that your wife/girlfriend/wife of a dear friend/chick you picked up last night/a chick that hopped in your truck when she saw you drove a Ram in your avatar?

It happened on my truck. I went with new amp power boards which has a plate for better weight spreading.

I'm having my Amp Research Boards installed tomorrow morning. Brand new truck and I really liked them a lot. Pricey but nice. Can't wait until tomorrow afternoon.

My comment is going to provide absolutley zero guidance to help you with your dilemma.....

But I do like your avatar.

Rzr, I love the grille on your ride. I just picked uno the 2016 1500 Sport with the Stinger package. I don't like the stock grille. I had something like this on my previous ride. Can you give me an idea what you have on there?

Thanks.

Anyone have good pics of the Amp research plates? I'm wanting running boards too but now I'm nervous about them cracking the rockers lol

The thought has crossed my mind too about damage to the rocker panel.

In doing some research, I came across an aftermarket running board manufacturer who used brackets that are much more substantial that have a section that went further under the truck and was attached with bolts that held the cab to the frame. It also attached at the trucks usual mounting holes in the rocker panel. From there it went across to the ramps. Pretty sure that I couldn't use those brackets on my existing boards but did show me that I could either have my existing brackets modified to add an extension or just ditch them and find running boards with a better bracket system.

Would like to see/hear what others are finding out about the amp research boards mentioned in the latter post.

Anyone fabricate some large washers / plates that one can sandwich between the bracket to spread the load?

Bearing in mind don't want the plate to cut into the body curves. I'm thinking something at least the thickness of the existing bracket and larger in footprint.
